Moiz Kazmi

CAST: Sehar Khan, Shuja Asad, Nadia Afgan, Sammiya Mumtaz, Nauman Masood

New episodes: Saturdays at 8:00 on Hum TV

What happens when the line between tradition and exploitation blurs? Tan Man Neel o Neel—a drama that pulls back the curtain on the gritty reality of wedding dancers, politicians and paid goons. Exploring mob mentality, extremism, oppressive power structures, and the crushing weight of misplaced honor, the series is a brave, unflinching exploration of male sexual assault and its aftermath. From naach gaana to blossoming romance between two friends Tan Man Neel o Neel has it all.

Here are my top 10 reasons to watch this super entertaining mini series:

1. Streamable: It is available on YouTube for most of the world. However if you manage to remember and work your schedule around it, it is on-air on HUM TV every Saturday, 8:00 p.m.

2.A Legacy Production: Third in line of many series by legendary producer Sultana Siddiqui, it follows the successes of Mann Jogi (starring Sabeena Farooq and Bilal Abbas Khan) and Nadaan (starring Ramsha Khan and Ahmed Ali Akbar). The drama sparks conversation on the concept of justice and societal norms for example scenes like “parcha ho ga tau charcha hoga” where even the police encourage silence.

Kami is a man consumed by violent rage

3. Directed by Saife Hasan: I’ve always admired Saife Hasan’s ability to breathe life into every project. From his early acting days in Sheema Kirmani’s plays, it was clear he had a deep understanding of character. Here, his direction is nothing short of masterful—no character feels out of place, and every storyline is finely woven together. Expect intense themes balanced simultaneously with relatable moments

4. Written by Mustafa Afridi: If the writing feels tight and researched, it’s because it is. Weaker writers can take notes from his craft. Afridi is a veteran, and his sharp, insightful scripts take you on a journey. The series highlights the struggles of male victims while imparting  crucial information like sexual assault should be reported within 48 hours. Sonu and Moon’s experiences offer a rare and necessary perspective on the challenges faced by men in the creative fields that are often overlooked in mainstream narratives.

blossoming romance between Rabi and Sonu – HUM TV

5. A Strong Ensemble Cast: What a cast! Even supporting actors brings depth to their roles – they act like founding pillars for the storyline. From the backstories to the motivations, the performances are layered. Special shoutout to the supporting actors: Nadia Afgan, Sammiya Mumtaz, Layla Zuberi, Tanveer Syed, Usman Javed, and Ali Ammar—they make every scene more compelling.

6. Shuja Asad (Sonu): If there’s one actor who’s set to steal your heart, it’s Shuja Asad. As Sonu, a dancer fighting exploitation, he’s got that charming, boy-next-door vibe that makes you root for him. He’s magnetic on-screen! This young star is one to look out for (You can also catch him in Aye Ishq e Junoon these days) !

7. Sehar Khan (Rabi): Sehar Khan is a powerhouse of talent. Her character in every drama is different yet she does justice to every role. Here she is outstanding as an ambitious YouTuber in a society that tries to control her choices. Her performance is an absolute treat to watch.

8. The Dialogue: Every line in this series feels like a punch to the gut. Dialogue like “Do number larka gandi baatein nahi karega tou kya dua-e-qanout sunaye ga tumhein?” and “Tu jis din naha leti hai na, MaShaAllah pakki pakki Reema lagti hai,” uplift the entire production

9. Cinematography: Set against the stunning backdrop of Androon Lahore, the cinematography is heavy on art. I personally love the sehans (terraces), jharookas (high windows) and glimpses of Mughal architecture. A visual treat!

10. Brave Storytelling: There are many stories worth mentioning in Tan Man Neel o Neel. This is an unflinching portrayal of trauma of various kinds. My favourite sub-plots are of Sammiya Mumtaz and Ali Ammar. His track depicts the pain behind those  lives we often reduce to performance. It is a taboo (male sexual abuse) topic and I’m so glad that with this production Sultana Siddiqui brings it to limelight, thank you!

As the drama continues we are eager to see how Kami, a man consumed by violent rage and a desperate desire to marry Rabi, wreaks havoc. Are Laddu and Rabi half-siblings? The tangled backstory weaves a web that leaves viewers questioning everything. After five excellent episodes, we are looking forward to the 6th episode but do not worry – there is always YouTube to catch up on whatever you have missed.
