Karachi hip-hop star Talha Anjum and producer Umair are making waves with their ambitious double album, My Terrible Mind. The 16-track project released via Mass Appeal earlier this month. spans nearly an hour of music. Every track is a testament to Anjum’s ability to balance hard-hitting bars with traditional hip-hop.
“I discovered my actor side on this album,” Anjum shared with Rolling Stone India. Known for his versatility, he oscillates between unapologetic gangster rap like “30 Shooter” and personal tracks such as “Heartbreak Kid” and “Departure Lane.” The star explains, “I have this shady side, and I have this pookie side.” The co-founder of the Hip hop music band Young Stunners has come a long way since breakout hit Burger-e-Karachi, which was released in 2013
Chart Success and Cross-Border Collaborations
Anjum is dominating Spotify Pakistan’s most-streamed artist charts. No wonder with listeners spanning Karachi to New Delhi, his music resonates across borders. . He calls collaborations with Indian artists Kr$na and Seedhe Maut, the “biggest Indo-Pak collaboration.”
But he wants more. Future plans include working with Divine, whom Anjum describes as “dangerous on the mic” and deeply humble offstage. Despite setbacks with a planned India tour in December, Anjum remains optimistic: “An India tour is always a possibility.”
A quick glance at Anjum’s Spotify monthly listeners show that most of his listeners come from New Delhi, Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Pune. The fifth city on that list is Karachi, so it’s safe to say Anjum – and Young Stunners – have plenty of fans in India.
For his fans in India and Pakistan, Anjum keeps it simple: “This is just a border thing. I love all my fans.”
