Zee Zindagi launched with much fanfare on 23rd June, 2014 with the tagline ‘Jodey Dilon Ko’ . The channel was received with warmth and excitement by the Indian audiences. In my own family, my mother’s become an ardent fan along with my extended family in Punjab. I shall never forget the day I made her watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai’s first episode and she disliked it. I was surprised as to how can she not like it? After 3-4 days she tells me she loves the serial and today after some six months, both of us watch serials together. Yay!
I personally love Pakistani serials for their content, the actors who play their character with so much dedication, the clothes and of course the Urdu language. Zindagi channel should be credited for bringing Urdu conversation back in Indian drawing rooms. The characters predominantly speak Hindustani interspersed with phrases and words from the ancient language.
A few years ago it was difficult to imagine such an exchange of mainstream media between India and Pakistan. Majority of Indians didn’t know much about Pakistanis, it was often believed that the Pakistani society is backward, the women there are treated shabbily and what not. Zindagi channel which has been aptly named since it is actually supposed to be a reflection in people’s lives broke those myths. Speaking of the serials that have been telecast so far in India have had different and interesting storylines that gave Indians a sneak peek into an average Pakistani’s life.
The channel has also been successfully to connect people from both sides of the border, not only through the medium of television but also the Facebook fan page of the channel where you see Indians and Pakistanis befriending each other, discussing today’s episode etc.
To sum up, Zindagi channel has been successful in connecting hearts i.e. they have indeed joda dilon ko! Not to mention, the lineup for 2015 looks amazing, I am so pumped!
Also, I wish you all a very Happy New Year!
