Disappointment seems to be fast becoming my middle name. First there was Ashk, what hopes I had of that serial? It all seems so naïve, so incredibly long ago when we thought this was going to fill the Humsafer shaped hole in our lives, wrong. Then came “Zindagi Gulzar Hai” or rather it did not. Just a note of caution to all you big wigs in TV Land, why this much dhol dhamaka? We knew it was going to be good, we were going to watch it anyway, anyhow: Five words Umera Ahmed and Fawad Khan. Was there really any need to hype it up so much, to raise our expectations so high on a crest of excitement, that inevitably smashed our hopes against the jagged rocks of commercial and moral politics that are always at play in Pakistan? Why did you have to fix something that was not broken? Well, nazr laggaaey na., Hope you are happy now…. whoever the genius was that decided they had to have a launch party. Add to this the unnecessary cruelty that Jab Tak Hai Jaan has inflicted on our already shattered psyches and I think some therapy is in order.

An open invitation to all readers: the serial /Movie you would like to see made, you decide the cast, the director and if at all possible a VERY short plot outline of no longer than two lines. Just remember to keep it short and sweet, unless it turns out to be brilliant and then take a paragraph if need be. If you have a problem with how a drama ended or who you wished had played that role, here is your chance to vent

Let me start the Ball rolling with my own movie /drama plans: PLEASE ,PLEASE,PLEASE someone ,just please ask Samira Fazal if she could write a shorter version of Kuch Pyar ka Palgalpan that lasted say two hours . Haissem Hussain is still directing but this time he edits it like Ek Naaeey Cinderella. The cast is the same Fawad Khan ,Mikaal Zulfikar and Sanam Baloch except I want Mahira Khan as Daneez. This time it is actually set in the USA and someone spends time on the sound quality so that we get the work of staggering genius it should have been. Just savor that thought for a few moments before we move on ….mmmm . That reminds me we must put in Usman Khaled Butt as Kiran’s brother and Aisha Khan would have done well as the earnest Tanya.

Ok, now time for a more serious movie idea, this time the writer is Faiza Ifthikhar, who wrote the amazing Roag. The plot is basically from Somerset Maugham’s The Painted Veil. In which a doctor marries a foolish and frivolous woman because of her good looks. He suspects her of an affair, blackmails her into going to serve with him at some disease infested outpost, fully expecting her to die. However she surprises him by becoming a better person and he is the one who becomes ill. This being my version, there is no actual infidelity just a plan to run away and I just cannot have the hero die. My cast is going to be Fawad Khan and yes finally Mehreen Raheel or say Faysal Qureshi and Saba Qamar or Mahira Khan. It would have to be directed by Sarmad Khoosat because he alone knows how to show the intensity of personal relationships.
