Let’s get one thing out of the way before we start the conversation. Dilkush is quite obviously the spawn of the devil and does not deserve a total sweetheart like Samir, but luckily since the world is just not fair, it looks like they are spending their old age together.
The episode begins with a couple of thankfully short goodbyes :in which Samir pushes away a sensible ,loyal ,kind and all sorts of virtues included package in the shape of Juggan’s sparkless Ghazal . Meanwhile Ali gets an easy escape from what would have been a nightmare without end as Dilkush effortlessly friendzones him . It isn’t that Dilkush is really evil but she has just been totally spoilt and left entirely to her own devices. She sees nothing wrong with doing exactly as she pleases and how she pleases. Like most children suffering from a touch of the affluenza she cannot imagine anyone not even her mother deciding anything for her ,In fact she has absolutely no idea of the harm she might cause herself or others, but before the viewer thinks she might be a hopeless case she shows she might just have a conscience. She does at least try to prevent Samir from being electrocuted and is guilty enough when he presents her some money for her school fees after inadvertently overhearing her lying her way out of a situation with her English teacher.
Mrs Suhail, the English teacher, has a point: all these impressionable young girls and a male teacher? Not even an old, married one but a rather hot young music teacher with a guitar no less. Never fear none of the girls are smitten (yet) but Ms single teacher Samina is and this presents our devil’s spawn Dilkush with the another opportunity for fun and games at other people’s expense. Yes I am actually making excuses for her. I loved this episode and again Mehar Bano was fabulous as Dilkush .She actually looks so innocent and guileless that despite her nefarious plans it is all coming across as cute and endearing …I have to shake myself back into judgmental mode every now and then because Dilkush seems so much fun. My only complaint is Mehar Bano(like Aun) tends to pull faces where they might not be entirely necessary. With a pretty face like that, why? The scenes are short, well edited and overall nicely done. Loved the songs and so far to my complete surprise Gohar Mumtaz whom I had decided to hate since the awful Tanhayan. Ok so you can’t win them all. He is good, very good, as Samir, with just the right amount of sweet earnestness and a pinch of khar dimaghi to keep it human. If he is a psychologist I wish he would pick up on Dilkush’s antics but of course he won’t because she is already dancing around him in his imagination .
I love it but there is a part of my mind that recoils at the idea of a breach in the teacher -student relationship of trust. At this age girls should only be thinking about their education and the only romance should be the ones they read in books, decent books (parental mode on). So far it has been tastefully done so well done team UYM, good direction from Amin Iqbal , great writing from Faiza Iftikhar and take a bow whoever did the editing!. The team is however inexplicably impressed with their choice of background music which they insist on keeping, on top of which it is so loud it competes with the dialogues …I mean why let this serial become perfect? This would have been a great movie: fun, interesting characters, wonderful songs and an entertaining story. As the Pakistani Film industry picks up I hope we see some fresh , entertaining movies like this and not just action movies or melodramas.
