OK, so 2012 is here and soon, the results of some of the awards related to drama serials in 2011 will be announced. TVKahani has been the first to release its list of Gold Awards, which I will review, upon the request of one of DramaPakistani’s visitors. (Note: only drama-related awards have been reviewed. You can see the complete list of winners here: http://www.tvkahani.com/WEBSITE/Articles/TVKahani-pakistan-television-awards-winners.html)
Best Actor in a Leading Role – Serial: Fawad Khan – Humsafar
DB: This is definitely well-deserved. In the beginning though, I had thought that the role of Mujtaba was more challenging than Ashar. However, the past few weeks have changed my opinion completely. No one could have done more justice to the character of Ashar than Fawad Khan. It has been a treat to watch and hence, the award is spot on.
Best Actress in a Leading Role – Serial: Ayesha Khan – Mere Charagar
DB: OK, I have been generally in two minds about which actress would get the “best” award as there really has been no one who has captured my attention. I, however, would have given this award to Amina Sheikh for her extremely versatile acting in so many different roles: Umme Kulsoom, Mera Saeein, Eik Hatheli, Maat, and so on. Not to discredit Ayesha, as she also has done brilliant work but somehow, Aamina has the edge.
Best Serial: Roag
DB: What? OK, this is a viewers’ choice award. But I would give it to Mera Naseeb OR Humsafar. In my opinion, Roag failed to conclude properly and had all the classical A&B Productions bloopers/issues.
Best Jodi: Fawad Khan – Mahira , Humsafar
DB: Rocking all the way! (Kiran and Mujtaba had potential but unfortunately NOW I don’t even want to think of them as a “couple”)
Best Actor in a Leading Role – Soap: Sami Khan – Tootay Huay Par
DB: Didn’t TVKahani give the Phuss Award to Sami Khan as leading actor?
Best Actress in a Leading Role – Soap: Rubina Ashraf – Samdhan
DB: I didn’t watch this soap so I cannot comment.
Best Soap: Kaash Main Teri Beti Na Hoti
DB: NO WAY! KMTBNH is giving totally wrong messages to a vulnerable audience. This award should have gone to Khushboo Ka Ghar.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Faysal Qureshi – Main Abdul Qadir Hoon
DB: MAQH was an amazing serial. The award is spot on!
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Shamim Hilali – Maat
DB: OK, I don’t agree with this one. This award should have gone to Humaima (Akbari Asghari).
Best Actor in a Negative Role: Nauman Ijaz – Mera Saaein
DB: Excellent choice. No one could have portrayed the “Saeein” in such a sinister manner.
Best Actress in a Negative Role: Saba Qamar – Maat
DB: No arguments about this one either!
Best Actor in a Comic Role: Aijaz Aslam – Kis Din Mera Vyah Hovega
DB: I could not stand this drama serial, so no comment.
Best Actress in a Comic Role: Shagufta Ijaz – Qissa Chaar Darvesh
DB: Why are all the awards going to A&B Productions? I don’t agree with this one. I found Shagufta’s character more irritating than funny. I would have given this award to the lady who played Sheen in Akbari Asghari or Bushra Ansari in TKAGB.
Best Comedy Drama: Kis Din Mera Vyah Hovega – GEO
DB: NOOOOO! The best comedy was in Akbari Asghari and maybe Takay Ki Aye Gi Barat!
Best Channel: HUM TV
DB: Yep, it has the most number of hit serials: Mastana Mahi, Mera Naseeb, Pani Jaisa Piyar, and now Humsafar.
Best Director: Sarmad Khoosat – Jalpari
DB: WHAAAAT? I mean, not at Sarmad but Jalpari. Humsafar and Pani Jaisa Piyar were better directions, methinks.
Best Producers: Momal Productions
DB: No arguments about this one. Well done, Momina Duraid.
Best Dialogues: Maaye Ni – Maha Malik
DB: I don’t agree with this one. The dialogues of Mera Naseeb were the BEST.
Best Rising Talent – Male: Imran Aslam
DB: With Dareecha and Mera Naseeb, this award is spot on.
Best Rising Talent – Female: Neelam Muneer
DB: Love her. This, too, is spot on! (Though I think Sana Askari and Fatima Effendi are very strong contenders for this award).
Best OST: Qaid-e-Tanhai
DB: In the face of Palkein Kyun Hum Hueen (Sohail Haider), KPKPBT (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan) and Woh Humsafar Tha (Qurat-ul-ain Baloch), the OST of Qaid-e-Tanhai pales in comparison. Even Neeyat’s OST was excellent.
Best Scene: Aiman Breaks Down After Saman’s Wedding – Maat
DB: Give me a BREAK! I really don’t want to see Aiman’s rona dhona getting an AWARD. The best scene of the year in my opinion would be one of the following:
1) The chess scene in Humsafar and how Khirad helps out Ashar
2) Mujtaba finds out Kiran is his manager (KPKPBT)
3) Nimra finds out her husband was involved in what happened to her when she was a child (Roag)
4) Nazia’s mother listens as Shazia and her phuppo discuss Fahd’s suicide, before she breaks down. (Mera Naseeb)
5) Aleen leaves the breakfast table and Adal goes after her (after his wedding to Suhayy) – Mastana Mahi
6) Sheen puts down Shabbo and tells Asghar to appreciate Akbari. (Akbari Asghari)
