Top Five Get-A-Life Female Leads in Pakistani Dramas

Disclaimer: The following list of female leads who need to get a life is based mainly on my personal views, out of dramas I watch myself or follow through recaps/previews. Readers are free to disagree and to add their own choice of characters to this list.

Number Five: Aila (played by Mahira Khan) in Neeyat

Man, she is one confused character. Aila is shown to be madly in love with her boyfriend, Sikander. But then, in order to acquire a green card for him, she pressurizes him into marrying Marium. And then somehow, she doesn’t realize what Marium and Ismail are doing to break up her and Sikander. I expect men to be this naive, but not women and certainly not women who live and study on their own in a foreign country. Aila first thinks Marium is lying about her pregnancy, and then when Sikander turns the latter out of the house, she goes to him and pleads with him to take her back. What the heck. Now she wants to leave the country. To date, I am unsure of what her character is all about, and hence, she is on my list of female characters who need to get a life. Seriously.

Number Four: Maham (played by Mehwish Hayat) in Meray Qatil Meray Dildar

Talk about doormat. Your husband’s brother comes marching into your room and you don’t even bother telling your husband about it. Seriously, girls who are married into unwelcoming households do realize what they will have to face; so why is Maham so docile and unsuspecting? Grow up, girl!

Number Three: Saania (played by Aiza Khan) in Maaye Ni

This lady seriously needs to realize that the presence of a mother-in-law never hampers your schedule – it is your own warped thinking. It seems the entire focus of her life is to make sure her husband’s attention remains on her and that he totally disregards his own mother. Doesn’t she have ANYTHING to do? What the heck! Is she in this drama just to give Sabiha a heart failure? It does seem so, sometime.

Number Two: Sabiha (played by Samia Mumtaz) in Maaye Ni

She is another female lead who it seems is destined to live a life of a doormat. Why do people like Samia Mumtaz even agree to do such roles? Granted her role is realistic but I am totally sick of her rona dhona – it happened in MZZB and the situation is the same here. Your children are grown, lady. At least, get a life NOW. Go out. Do something for the society.

Number One: Aiman (played by Amina Shaikh) in Maat

She doesn’t have a life now, and she will not have one even by the end of the serial. Enough said.

Other get-a-life female leads whose mere mention is quite enough:

Hijab (played by Amina Shaikh) in Aik Hatheli pay Hina; Aik Hatheli pay Laho

Marium (played by Deepi Gupta) in Neeyat

Fiza (played by Sanam Saeed) in Daam

All the four leading ladies of Qissa Char Dervesh
