Choti se ghalat fehmi ker degi juda hum ko
Halaat na badleinge maloom na tha hum ko
Rishton ki humhein itni pehchan na thi pehle
Kehne ko marasim to apne the bohat gehre
Ashkon ke siwa laikin kuch bhi na mila hum ko
Halaat na badleinge maloom na tha hum ko
Uthte howe qadmoon main zanjeer see parh jati
Ehsas-e-nadamat se dehleez pe garh jaati
Ek baar mohabat se dete jo sada hum ko
Halaat na badleinge maloom na tha hum ko
Choti see ghalat fehmi ker degi juda hum ko
I’m not sure if any of the readers has heard the above ghazal (I believe there are a couple different versions), but to me episode 12 was all about ghalat fehmi and how it not only ruins relationships, but can also take a person’s life. The second to the last episode starts out with Zeenia having just broken her engagement to Zarak and going into her father’s room. All Zain says is ‘eik minute Zeenia’ and that was enough for her to take her entire frustration about her broken relationship out on her father…not to mention the long overdue bent up anger she has for him also. She is insistent that he has no idea what has just happened in that ‘eik minute’ or even one week, month, or year. She continues to rant that he doesn’t care about her or Zara as he so easily sold the house and then to prove her accusations goes to get that box to show everyone that he has Natasha’s keepsakes hidden in there. To her surprise, when she throws the box down Zara’s memories are the only thing in there. Zain also reveals that he couldn’t sell the house since Zara’s memories were attached to that house. By this point I wanted to get into that YouTube video and slap Zeenia myself for her nonsensical and utterly rude behavior. But obviously I couldn’t so I continued to watch as finally we found out the truth about Zara.
Apparently Zara had become this shakki wife who did everything but actually ask her husband for an explanation. When they moved to NY, Zain had started his own business and had met Natasha. She was only his business partner as she had a business degree and also helped her father with his business. Zara thought it was more than that since they spent so much time together…especially since Zain was always so busy. Zain never clarified because she had never asked and he never thought that she could ever think like that about him. Zara started getting her nightmares again and instead of actually talking to her husband, she started ordering anti-depressants from Pakistan and started getting addicted to them. The reason she gave Zeenia for the taking the pills, against Zain’s wishes, was the halaat in Pakistan, hence Zeenia’s negative state of mind of Pakistan. Due to taking so many pills, her BP started to fluctuate and Zain took her to the doctor, who sent her to a psychiatrist. When Zain found out the real reasons behind Zara’s behavior he ended his business relationship with Natasha right away and immediately started attending to Zara’s needs, however by then it was too late. The doctors told Zara to slowly taper off the meds, but Zara stopped taking them all at once, causing cardiac issues. When Zara found out she only had a few days to live, she booked the flights for Pakistan and her entire focus shifted to the trip and Saniya, but as we know she never made it. She also made Zain promise that he would not tell anyone about this, especially Saaniya.
I refuse to believe that relationships are that weak and I believe that is what this episode teaches us all. Had Zara just been honest about everything to Zain, perhaps she would still be alive now and Zeenia would not have such trust issues with men. This was a complete Domino effect…Zara didn’t trust Zain and never spoke to him; rather they always ended up fighting. Zeenia never knew the truth, she always saw her parents fighting and since she spent so much time with her mother, she thought her father was wronging her with Natasha. That completely destroyed her relationship with her father and now Zarak. Serena was shielded from it all because she was in boarding and Zeenia didn’t want to worry her. Zara didn’t trust her sister enough to confide in her either. No one spoke to each other; completely misunderstood each other and the situation, resulting in destroyed relationships and one death. I, as an audience am furious with Zara. She was insecure in Original Tanhaiyan too (luckily that is on PTV these days too) and her insecurity ruined not just her, but also here daughter. Mothers are supposed to think of their kids at least, but she wallowed in self-pity and found comfort in pills. I realize Zain isn’t completely innocent, and I would be more upset with him if he actually did have an affair. His only fault was being too busy and not calling Saniya instead of making that stupid promise. Ugh!!
Zeenia finally gets to know the truth and feels guilty. She can’t seem to figure out what to do now. I liked Serena’s ‘zyada kuch karne ki zaroorat nahi hai, jao unhe hug do aur sorry kaho’ line. Very simple, very real, no drama. Thankfully Zeenia takes her advice and apologizes. That scene is one of the best ones yet where he explains the history of and the meaning of that rose that Zara had given him. Keep memories alive so relationships prosper. Somehow that meaning got lost and things took a drastic turn for the worst.
Amongst this heaviness is the Kishmish and Serena boiled eggs and toast dinner…very skweet :) Kishmish also gets Serena to confess her feelings for him and confesses his for her. Mona and Arif ki bhi setting hogayee, and that too baghair Bibi’s Wazeefa. Khalujan has threatened to bring the baraat as his actual fiancé has dumped him. So the only ones left are Z&Z and I’m sure they’ll get hitched in the last episode.
Absolutely superb episode!! Here I really want to mention the direction and acting…the simultaneous scenes between Zeenia and Serena and Zain and Saaniya and then Zain and Aani were fabulously and seamlessly shot. This could not have been shot any better. The scene between Zain and his daughters was also fantastic. Each and every actor (even Alishba) owned their scenes, their emotions, facial expressions and dialogue delivery. Marina does an amazing job not just directing, but also acting while directing. The script was flawless in its simplicity. There weren’t any heavy words or any over the top dramatic effect. What I really liked was that as heavy and emotional as this episode was, it was equally very simple.
Fantastic job to the entire team of TNS-2. The lesson I came out was trust and value your relationships and avoid misunderstandings. Stop doubting each other and start talking to each other.
