Before I start with episode 10’s review, I would like to offer my condolences to Sheheryar Munawwar and his family for the unfortunate and untimely death of his younger brother last week…may his soul rest in peace InShaAllah.
This week’s episode was very light. It starts off with Serena giving a piece of her mind to her older sister about her behavior towards their father while he was leaving for New York. Apparently had Serena not stopped her, she had the potential to be even more badtameez. Zeenia thinks Serena doesn’t miss their mother and in reply Serena tells her that she doesn’t need lifeless furniture, walls, or ceilings to miss their mother (reference to the sale of their house). She says their mother was very sweet and she is happy when she misses her as her memories are like a fresh breath of air for her and starts crying. I really think Serena should have been the older sister. Zeenia really needs to wake up and get a grip. Her always sad and worried state makes me depressed. Unfortunately part of it was cut off and I looked through 3-4 websites online and still couldn’t find the full 10 minutes in the beginning. There was a cut scene where Marina Khan is in their room at night hugging them, but not sure why. My apologies.
We move to kitchen scene where Apa Begum’s rooh is clearly not happy with Saaniya’s fake emergency engagement. The glass breaking by the way even freaked me out a little. At breakfast Faraan Uncle is insistent on inviting Iftekhar to chai the next evening. Upon Saaniya saying ‘ke who shayed sheher se bahar gaya hua hai’ Faraan Uncle’s ab naubat yahan tak agaee hai ke aap se tum tak pohunch gaye’ reminded me of Mehdi Hassan’s ghazal, ‘Rafta Rafta.’ It was really great to see Qazi Wajid finally getting more screen time. Serena however has been spying on ‘Khalujan’ through facebook and informs everyone that he is in fact in town. Waise Khalujan clearly hasn’t gotten acquainted with Facebook’s privacy settings. Serena posted congrats on his wall and everyone saw it, including his real fiancé. Khalujan, bad idea to make your wall public :) I’ve said this before and feel I must say this again, Syra Yousuf is really going to go places if she keeps acting like this. She reminds of Bushra Ansari in her acting. Great comic timing, flawless and very natural dialogue delivery…doesn’t feel like she is acting at all.
Qabacha has been instructed by Faraan Uncle to write all of his emotions down on paper and then dariya mein baha do. But since there is no dariya in KHI, Qabacha hides it under the carpet in his room…really? Kishmish sees it after sending his dad off to the dentist reads the letter (buri baat Kishmish). He then calls Serena to meet up and she read the letter in the car. These two are awesome together. They get one minute of screen time and make full use of it. With this letter, Kishmish has his new script…I wonder who will play Saaniya in the movie? Qabacha by the way is also invited to the dinner. The dinner scene did not impress me. The point of Iftekhar going was to fake break off the fake engagement, but instead they lie and say that his family is out of town for a month and only then can they decide the date….what? Everyone by now knows this is all a sham so I guess I don’t get the point…sorry.
We get a glimpse of Chandni, Bibi, Mona, and Arif today. Bibi has decided to become the ‘zalim samaj’ between Chandni’s film career. Bechari got all dressed and everything to go see Kishmish and got stopped by Bibi. Seriously, ab Bibi bhi shaadi ker he lein. Waise the line about the maulvi marrying Chandni’s phuppo by telling her that ‘kunwari larki ka namaze janaze jaiz nahi hota’ was absolutely hilarious. I actually would not be surprised if this happened in reality. Youth center gave us a glimpse of Arif and Mona. Arif, Khuda ka waasta, please please get a haircut!! I do love Mona and Arif’s chemistry though. All four of these characters were fantastic as usual.
We also see Iftekhar at the Youth Center. Saaniya needs him to come to dinner and break off the fake engagement. At this point, everyone I think knows that Saaniya is lying, yet Saaniya doesn’t seem to know that everyone knows. Z&Z are also at the youth Center. We finally see Zeenia in a shalwar kameez. Again, she has the worried and tensed look on her face. Does this girl not know how to be happy? I get tensed just watching her. Again, acting wise there two are just not up to the mark. Zarak has been trying to connect with Gul Dada but isn’t able to. Perhaps Alishba can pass on some of her worried emotions to SM.
The episode ends with SM and Gul Jan simultaneously getting the call about Gul Dada’s murder by the enemy. Parveen Akber’s facial expressions are outstanding upon hearing her husband’s death. This lady can act and proves it every time. SM was actually not bad in that scene I’ll admit. But when he is talking to Zeenia at the end about murdering the enemy before the enemy murders him, where is the anger in his tone and his face? He has a frozen face. I don’t get Sheheryar Munawwar. He has been given chance after chance to show his acting skills, yet he doesn’t.
All in all, an extremely light episode and we are now nearing the end with only 3 left. I hope we get to hear more about the mystery of Zara and Zain next week. Till then…….
