Since Natasha’s wedding my general reaction after a Silvatein episode is one of barely contained annoyance ,to say the character is Na kabiley bardasht is to err on the side of politeness . This week however I am feeling a little sad and yes, even a little down . The entire episode was Shamim Hilali’s; what a fabulous job she has done in bringing the strength , vulnerability and love a mother has for her children .Her life is ending and none too easily (cancer is not an easy death) yet she bravely puts on a face to reassure her sons . When death stares you in the face all the petty squabbles of this world fade into insignificance at least for most people . I was suddenly impressed by Natasha “allowing” Bilal to visit his dying mother, thinking: well at least the character is not totally irredeemable but I was wrong. Natasha uses this trip to create a bad situation for Zaib by texting a note to Mikaal from her sister’s phone then she starts arguing outside her dying Mother in laws bedroom demanding to see her about the inheritance. As far as I am concerned all that is left now is for me to find out Natasha has killed a few children and the picture will be complete .
The most interesting thing about this week’s episode were her enablers :Zaib and Bilal. Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu once said when you choose to do nothing in the face of injustice ,you have chosen the side of the oppressor and I firmly believe that Zaib and Bilal have chosen the side of the oppressor . Zaib sent no such text to Mikaal but in some strange misplaced sense of guilt she accepts she did ,to allow Natasha to save face. Similarly Bilal has internalized Natasha’s constant criticism and does not think himself worthy of her ….. Again I am reminded of my question from last week . Is Zaib’s way correct or is Rayaan ‘s way better? For my part I side with Rayaan who wants to see Natasha learn about the realities of life and so value the good things she is taking for granted.
Meanwhile Rayaan is worried about Zaib’s strange behavior and does his best to reason her out of it but she is determind not to take of her penitential hair shirt . Amina and Adeel look adorable together and I love all their scenes.I really admire Rayaan’s character he may not be perfect but he is sensible , kind and very caring . It seems he has really learnt from his past mistakes and is very attentive to his wife and family. I so hope he does not fall into that stupid “shaq wala “trap Natasha set up for him against Zaib .Adeel Hussain , Danyal Raheel and indeed the entire cast are doing such a great job of bringing their characters to life , it is hard to remember these are not real people .Now the story is moving forward I am dying to see some retribution for Natasha..
On a side note Amina Shaikh looked lovely and natural dressed as a bride , who ever did her make up in Armaan should be fired immediately .
