There were a lot of memorable lines in today’s episode but the one that I liked the best had to be the words spoken by Rayaan to Zaib as they left Muneeze’s apartment (?)
“trust me Zaib.Mein tumharey sath hoon. Tumharey aagey naheen hoon tumhey lead karney kay leeye. Naa hi tumharey peechey tumharey orders sunney kay leeeye. Tumharey saath hoon . ‘
After watching one dysfunctional couple after another parade across my TV screen it is like a breath of fresh air to see Rayaan and Zaib ,acting like two reasonable adults in a relationship. Yes they have their issues ,a divorce and a headstrong nature respectively, but instead of the swelling music I have come to dread ,we see sensible people working towards analysing and resolving their issues.
This week Rayaan and Zaib decided to take the plunge and got married without any of their family present. Natasha would not allow her own or Bilal’s presence, Muneese was prebooked on a cruise she could not cancel and of course both sets of parents were in Pakistan. I found this strange and disturbing on more than a few levels.Call me old fashioned but I think as mature individuals they should have waited and the scenes of Natasha weeping over her own sister’s marriage were even stranger. This is a question I kept asking myself , should they have gone ahead with the wedding ? The only answer I have is that Rayaan was afraid Zaib would change her mind and Natasha would end up overriding everyone just the way she does Bilal . You needn’t have worried Rayaan , Zaib thinks you are perfect . Last week I was happy with the Zaib /Rayan chemistry and it only got better this week . Those two were just perfect together . There were no overblown promises or lambey dialogues, just simple actions of kindness and respect which are the true essence of a good relationship. Rayaan is protective of Zaib ,while she cares for Rayaan .Each making an effort for the other. I never saw a conversation on a stairwell in an apartment building look more romantic . Rayaan never told Zaib how beautiful she was but you can tell how exactly how he feels about her just in their body language which was in no way overbearing or too obvious. Both Amina Shaikh and Adeel Hassan have done a fabulous job in bringing out their characters feelings without frightening the horses or the children .Wether walking in the mall or , making breakfast they were just too cute.
I am getting a little tired of this whole Natasha /Bilal dynamic and might have fast forwarded their scenes if Bilal had not finally walked out on Natasha. Apparently he does have some kind of self respect hidden DEEP in the depths of his mind or perhaps seeing the respect with which Zaib treats Rayaan might have finally tipped him over the edge. However within five minutes of Natasha ‘s wheedling presence he is back to square one AAAAARgh …. agreeing not speak to Zaib and then even not to his sister.I think this whole Natasha track has to move forward because apart from raising my blood pressure a few notches we seem to be running in circles . One more Chaker tho mein beyhosh hojaaoo gi.
I really felt sorry for Muneese this week . Poor girl her biggest gunah was being born in this family . She is actually a sensible person who lives a reasonable, moderate lifestyle , but her brother’s have signed some kind of suicide pact concerning the women they marry and when she complains ,her mother tells her off. I think Shameem Hilali’s character is typical of a certain kind of non resident Pakistani parent . They have this 1950s mentality that bas ab shadi hogaaey tho bas nibhao, no matter how bad the spouse behaves. She keeps telling Muneese to stay out of it and not mind but then she herself should give some guidance this is another question I keep asking ,is she right by just letting things sort themselves out? OR is she wrong :by putting up with injustice and bad behaviour is she just encouraging it ? You can see it reflected in Rayaan’s behaviour too , he stops Zaib from telling off Natasha because he says it is Bilal’s fault for putting up with it.
This was a lot less frenetic than last week and it was so nice to see Rayaan and Zaib get married , but I hope the story moves forward next week. As Muneeze says trust comes with time, not with convincing and I think it may take decades where Natasha is concerned because she cannot see anything beyond herself . At this point I am not sure how Natasha is going to come back especially after that nasty trick of playing the recording of Zaib’s words out of context in front of her in laws. I am not sure how much lower she can sink . What made a refreshing change was that instead of going into traditional “drama husband /fiance” full on SHAQ mode, Rayaan brushed it off without a second thought . This is why I love his character: he is a reasonable , normal person just like the ones which inhabit the real world. He is mature enough to understand Zaib’s motivations and admit his own mistakes with Mahjabeen. Most of all both he and Zaib are committed to each other’s well being and happiness , perhaps it is because both are mature individuals who have already experienced bad luck in relationships .
