Just as I was expecting Zaib had a change of heart. As I said last week the broken engagement and its effects did not have the dramatic on screen impact they should have to explain this change of heart. This is why it seems so strange that Zaib is sent by her parents to the States. However in the interests of the plot moving forward let us allow some literary license and of course given Durdana’s complete ignorance of the sad state of Natasha and Zaib’s relationship it is not so far fetched. This episode was a lot mellower but none the less interesting. Natasha is continuing on her way as the bride from hell: contemptuous of Bilal, uncaring and avaricious. She even uses Zaib’s arrival to ask her brother in law Rayaan for more money to be put into her account and misses no opportunity to bad mouth her sister and Bilal. I wonder how long such a state of affairs can last. I once read about a psychologist who claims to be able to predict whether a couple will divorce within ten to fifteen minutes of meeting them. His main point of reference was not the amount of love, money or compatibility between the bride and groom but the amount of respect they had for each other as people. The amount of disrespect and disdain, Natasha shows Bilal is unbelievable and it won’t be ignored for long. Bilal maybe so besotted by her he cannot see straight but Rayaan, Muneeze and for that matter Zaib are noticing with increasing unease.
Zaib realizes her mistakes and tries to repair her image and I get the impression she is sincere. Muneeze accepts her apology but makes a very valid point that just saying sorry is not enough, not even good intentions will help if they are not backed up with actions. So now Zaib is on a campaign to correct the mistakes of the past. Her talk with Mikaal shows she understands where she went wrong and there seems a chance they will go back to being friends. The two people implacably opposed to her are Rayaan and Natasha. Despite his anger Rayaan is unfailingly polite but he too is not above a little revenge, I am not sure what he did to Zaib’s telephone but it looked like he wiped the record of Mikaal’s call to Zaib. Natasha seems to be the toughest nut to crack, perhaps because there is so much history between the sisters.
I have noticed in this episode and most of this drama how different the two families are . Despite Muneeze being the injured party she accepts Zaib’s apology with grace , she even obeys her elder brother Rayaan by not visiting the house. Similarly Bilal cannot imagine disrespecting his elders while Natasha feels it is just no big deal.I think one of the funniest scenes had to be Natasha practicing how cool she would be when calling Muneeze, I know all of this is supposed to be about Natasha’s insecurities about Zaib but I am not so sure …my dislike of this character is reaching a point of no return. Are mothers really like Durdana ? Can a mother really be so oblivious to her children’s fault? Muneeze on the other other hand really redeemed herself after the foolishness of the past and I think full marks to Maheen Rizvi for giving us such a nuanced portrayal.I wonder if we will get to see Muneeze’s family.
This week Mira and Danyal were just superb as the world most dysfunctional couple. I cannot say I enjoyed watching their scenes but it was certainly riveting. In the beginning it was mildly amusing seeing the usual roles reversed ,with the new bride giving the groom a hard time but after a while it gets wearing. How long can a marriage like that last ? The poor guy looked so excited when he thought she might be pregnant …yeh shadi kam …umer qaid ziyadi lagti hai. What always confounds me about girls like Natasha is what exact metric they base their highly inflated self worth on. A question perhaps our readers can answer ?
