I must admit that when I first saw the Facebook page of Shadi Mubarak and read the names of the lead characters – Sami Khan and Ayeza Khan – I simply mumbled: Not again! Give me a break!
Really, A&B Productions have over-used these two and it is time for someone else to take the lead for a change. Anyway, what actually prompted me to write something about this drama serial is the string of excellent promos that have just been released.
I agree that senseless (and useless) dancing, over-the-top makeup and silly comedy will definitely be a part and parcel of this. But what I definitely fell for is the tongue-in-cheek way the characters introduce themselves. And there are quite a few new faces to watch out for.
Shadi Mubarak, from what I gathered from the promos, is about a simply, plain-looking girl Saadi with whom a dashing groom (Sami Khan) has fallen in love, much to the chagrin of Saadat Begum, his mother, who wanted a nice, rich, beautiful daughter-in-law. The candidate she had in mind went away to Houston, taking away the Begum’s dreams with her. Now the Dulha is “stuck” with the Jassi-look-alike Saadi, who he hopes will win his mother’s heart, the way she won his.
The other track of the story shows Saadi’s brother and best friend, who are apparently in love, and hoping that Saadi’s marriage will pave way for their wedding as well.
I must say I am looking forward to this. I have never really been a fan of such wedding-inclined drama serials but there is something about the Mami Manchester, Khala Chaklala and Masti Chachu (all of whom are attending the wedding) that makes me want to give this a chance.
So Shadi Mubarak is inviting soon…and I am waiting for my invite!
