When serious, cause-oriented drama serials fall apart in conveying the message, you have no choice but to turn to totally silly ones like Shadi Mubarak for some much-needed comic relief.
The previous and this week’s episodes were extremely interesting to watch. Faraz finally opened his heart to Masti Chachoo, who proceeded to make a trip to his sister’s house to convince her. You would think that Saadat Begum would have appreciated that her son had only fallen for her own neice. But no, she acted like the typical mom – as her husband said, “Tum apnay bhai ko status ki ainak say dekhti ho.”
Saadi was quite indignant at being the “second choice” – and rightly so. Thankfully, the episode did not drag with her inner turmoil where on one hand, she wanted to say ‘yes’ and on the other, she resented the fact that Faraz sent a proposal only after Fehmi left. However, Masti Chachoo and Moomal saved the day. Mawra Hussain made her entry with a bang as the fun-loving Moomal. So far, she has done a great job! And I hope to see her mature and take on more serious roles in the future.
Khala Chaklala and Mami Manchester are now getting on my nerves. There really is a limit and they both are now sounding repetitive and irritating. Mami Manchester throws some interesting dialogues every now and then (“Tum meri baat ko joke main fly kar detey ho”) but overall, Phuppi Batool was much more genuine and spot on than her any day.
Saadi and Faraz are seriously growing on me. Honestly, there is something that really appeals to me about them, even though I am seeing them also in Kaala Jadu where they don’t have any impact at all. Here, the innocent Saadi and lovestruck Faraz exhibit a rare on-screen chemistry that comes as a breath of fresh air.
All things considered, I must give credit to Sheema Kamal for accurately portraying all the different emotions that run around in a high dose when a family wedding is coming up. Everyone has something to say. Almost every elderly relative tries to impose his or her ideas, while the younger generation wants to do things their way. At the end of the day, you have to have someone who puts their foot down and assumes control; Masti Chachoo is doing a great job here, subtly offering support, calming down tempers and making sure everything is done smoothly.
Overall, with some forwarding of scenes, the current and previous episodes were pretty interesting. Let’s see how the story fares once the shadi functions begin.
