This drama serial is seriously growing on me. The second episode of Shadi Mubarak was filled with many light moments, silly dance sequences and growing romance between Faraz and Saadi. I must say that I see so little chemistry between couples in other dramas (and even this particular couple in Kaala Jadu), that Faraz and Saadi make me go “awww” a lot. I mean, literally, their interaction made me smile, even though it had little screen-time. After a long, long time (and many, many A&B drama serials), Sami Khan and Ayeza Khan seem to be doing a good job and seem comfortable in their roles.
Fehmida finally made her flight this week, after a disastrous Mayun function, which left her to-be in-laws gaping and wondering what the world is coming to. Again, Fehmida reminded me of me – I had also plain refused to be a docile, eyes-on-the-floor, acknowledge-everyone-with-nods bride. I hadn’t danced at my Mayun – I didn’t have one – but I talked and interacted normally, and shot dagger looks to whoever tried to make me “behave”. Yes, I seriously have something against this whole business of ‘proper dulhan etiquette’. If someone wants to be traditional, fine. But seriously, why should anyone get on the case of those who want to be more interactive on their wedding day? Just because a bride is vocal on her wedding day, doesn’t mean she will not be a good wife/daughter-in-law, etc.
Anyway, so yes, this issue is again close to my heart. However, I certainly was shocked at the way Fehmida broke up her engagement. That was really rude! Something tells me Faraz did not mind in the least. Let’s see how he manages to tweak things his way and get his mother to agree to marry him to Saadi.
Mamu and Mami Manchester made their entry this week. (By the way, I am loving the fact that this drama serial has not thrown all characters at us in one go). The reaction of the two sisters upon seeing their grown-kamzor brother was hilarious – again, this is something that happens in every other household. “Haye bechara bhai / beta; bahu / bhabi tou kuch khilati pilati nahin hai.” Mami Manchester seems heavily inspired by phuppo Batool in Akbari Asghari. However, Mamu Manchester and Masti Chachoo are doing a great job.
Overall, it was an enjoyable episode and I am looking forward to next week minus the dancing.
