Call me silly. Lament that I have too much faltoo time on my hands. But I love this drama serial. Maybe it’s the whole glitz and glam wedding fever. Maybe it’s the characters. I don’t know! The first episode of Shadi Mubarak went straight to my heart for all the wrong reasons. Yep, the character call-me-Fehmi reminded me of me – the way I was before my own wedding. Boy, was I against this whole ritual of the bride’s clothes made by the groom’s family. I still am, by the way. I never wore my wedding dress after the wedding because I hated it. I still do by the way!
Anyway, so Shadi Mubarak started with the household of Siddiqui Sahab (the lady who played Sheen is playing his wife so I am doubly attracted to this drama). His nephew’s wedding preparations are in full swing, for which he is paying for the venue and the menu. I love the way they are rhyming stuff here. Khala Chaklala has arrived. Masti Chachoo is organizing events to keep the family entertained (I fast forwarded all the dance scenes though; if there is one thing I cannot stand in the dramas, it is silly dancing).
The drama has its fair share of copy-cats. There is one character who looks exactly like the Jibran of Ankahi. Then there is Saadi – Ayeza Khan – who has the Ugly Betty/Jassi look with a horrible wig. Probably the biggest blooper is Faraz’s attitude towards Fehmida – hypocrisy, some may call it. In the precap of the next episode, it is shown that Fehmida breaks the engagement after there is a furor over her dancing in her own Mayun and that she has forgotten all tameez and tehzeeb. Somebody ask Faraz: the way you were dancing with Saadi in the first episode was not exactly the epitome of tameez OR tehzeeb. Saadi is also shown dancing in the promos (in her Mayun). Anyway, this was just an initial impression; things should be clear in today’s episode.
For now, I am enjoying the band baaja and halla gulla. We honestly need some light-hearted shows around.
