Satyamev Jayate “Truth Alone Prevails”

Note from the Editor:

Before any one of you start raising eyebrows why an Indian show review on dramapakistani.. let me state it honestly. I was deeply impressed by This show and the prime reason was Amir Khan. I remember me and faria( one of our reader) had a detailed chat about how a TV show can bring  a change in our mindset . and how this particular Show is exactly doing that. Why this show is changing the image of TV from an idiot box . One of the reasons why i am all aww about this show is because it caters to everyone, the aam Janta…. people who get affected everyday and the astonishing part is that its not goverment that causes that particular problem. its we the society that creates an atmosphere. let it be dowry, let it be female feticide or let it be child abuse… its not govt that does that. its our Society where such issues prevails….one of the reason why I have decided to post  review of Satyamev Jayte on dramapakistani is to show our so called intellecual Morning show hosts that HOW ITS DONE.. you dont have to make a mockery out of a emotional issue.. you can be calm, composed and state things without creating a drama.. without insulting the other person.

We are also Starting a new Section of reviews called  ” Guest Reviewer” where anyone can write about any thing that they would like to speak or discuss about without being  a regular reviewer… This review has been written by one of our review readers Faria and I am really glad at how her very 1st post turned out..

Amir Khan can be accredited as a maverick in every sense of the word. The latest evidence he has unearthed in support of this claim is his spectacular and unique reality show Satyamev jayate.

After  seeing a huge promotional campaign and Amir Khan’s intimate video messages, five weeks before I sat in front of my TV in the Sunday at 11’o clock waiting for something extraordinary to happen.

Vow, Vow, Vow! These were the three words that left my lips in the next one hour as glued to my seat I saw a rollercoaster of emotions on the one eyed monster in front of me.

The first show was on the issue of female feticide an issue relatively unheard of in Pakistan but very common in India. It was not the choice of issue which touched me but the way it was presented was sheer class. Pakistani and Indian audiences are rather familiar with social issues being unearthed in the most grotesque manner since this is what most of both the countries news channels do all the time. Therefore there was nothing ground breaking in a show discussion social issues that were taboo. But is this true? Was there no difference.

Amir Khan brings such an aura of himself on anything he does. I mean come on year! Banda har chiz par apni chaap laga deta hai chahe kuch bhi karey. For the first time in my life I felt rather connected to television show host. As ghalib has said in a remarkable couplet

“Dekhnaa taqreer ki lazzat kai jo uss ne kahaa

Main nai yeah jaana kai goyaa wohi meray dil mein hai”

It was like this on that day suddenly I started feeling that whatever Amir Khan is saying is echoing through my heart. It was after such a long time that television has affected me in this way.

The stories that were presented were so emotional that they just burnt my heart out.

I think where the difference cam in was that rather than sensationalizing the stories and making the issue more spicy everything was handled in such a humane way. All the reactions coming from the anchor and the audiences were just so natural and that actually made this show very different.

Another positive and different aspect was that rather than laying blame or creating a social civil war. It was so sensibly handled. The ray of hope that came in the end was also rather appealing.

Coming to the last bit, I am such a non- crying person. My tissue paper box never comes in play when I am watching television and I was rather proud that I have almost made it through this show without even moistening my eye brows but the best part was saved for the last. A unique addition in the show format was the song performed at the end which has been written and composed specially on the theme of the show. When the beautiful  folk melody “o ri Chiriya” started playing it was moments after I felt a gulp developing up my throat and after a few split seconds tears started bursting through my eyes. It was just such a heart touching song and it related so well to the them that I can’t help but cry my heart out.

So after seeing this show my resolve became more firm. Amir Khan is a maverick in every sense of the word.”
