Aww! How can you not fall in love with Sanjha?! Her naïveté, her unassuming charm, her endearing insecurities, the way she says pitchkur, and to top it all off her reminiscing about Mumtaz, her obdurate goat, all ingredients perfectly blended to make an irresistible character. Suhaee, with her lovely smile and unaffected acting, is the perfect Sanjha. Imran Aslam, as Weeda, with his angry young man attitude, is her perfect companion. Methinks they are the cutest couple on TV these days.
The episode opened with Weeda’s experiences as he settled in to college life. At the kothi-khana, Mumtaz swayed by Shareef’s oily words, got all prepared to send Sanjha to dance before the rich seth. Mercifully Rozy stepped in and saved the day. Seems like Sanjha has more lives than a cat here! For Rozy, however, it appears that playing the savior might have cost her her life. We’ll have to wait for the next episode to know Rozy’s fate. Also, now that Sanjha knows that her sister’s at Dr. Ammar’s house, how and when will the two sisters reunite? Again, a long wait till the next episode. Moreover, Nauman Ijaz’s mode of entry into the story is still a mystery. I guess for that too, we need to have patience! Sigh!!
Kudos to director Farooq Rind for keeping a very tight grip on the narrative and succeeding in keeping the suspense alive from one episode to the next. Apart from the main story, Sanjha’s, there are so many other little side tracks, each with their own twists and turns, and every scene is so beautifully filmed that it’s hard to do something else meanwhile. Finally, I cannot end without mentioning Uroosa Siddiqui – she is brilliant as Pari. And, this was her episode to shine, first as the sympathetic friend, to Sanjha, and later as the coquettish flirt, as she teased Dr. Ammar. In my opinion, this is one of those few serials where every member of the huge ensemble cast has a clearly etched out character and each actor has done justice to their roles, be they big or small. Great job by the entire team!
