Just when I was afraid that Khalil would turn into a serial monogamist like both his parents, I was relieved when he met Humaira and cleared the air. Khalil was disappointed with himself for falling for something as lame as the thaskay ka todka and I hope this is the last we hear of thaskays and jhappis and peers. I honestly feel the past few episode were wasted with this sidetrack and this was simply a desperate attempt at stretching the total number of episodes. Sadqay Tumharay had everything working for it when it started and the exceptional narrative coupled with KuR’s signature dialogues were truly the cherry on top. I can’t imagine what compelled the makers to destroy something that was deemed a hit before it began.
The highlight of tonight’s episode was the conversation between Rasheeda and Inayat. Everyone has been so busy judging those around them and passing the blame but if you take a step back, there is no one who is free of guilt. The fact that they don’t want to accept it is another story. Inayat was wronged by her cheating husband but her decision to give up her first four children and marry her sister’s fiancé wasn’t right. Rasheeda was seduced by her brother-in-law but she assumed that since she owned up to it, all will be forgiven. Abdul Rehman punished her by marrying her sister and this was the biggest blow he could’ve given Rasheeda. Revenge is a strange thing- it blinds you until it consumes your soul. This revenge saga has consumed two generations and has destroyed everyone in the process.
Grief demands an answer but sometimes there isn’t one. Shano felt Khalil deserved to know why he was being punished by fate- he was paying for the sins committed by his parents; sins her mother was not ready to forgive. It is difficult to understand the plight of others unless you are experiencing what they are going through. Rasheeda has been portrayed as the absolute worst but the truth is, she isn’t the only one to blame. I can’t help but wonder why Bi Ji didn’t take a stand at the time when Inayat divorced Sadiq. Surely she could’ve seen no good would come from such a union. If Rasheeda doesn’t love her children the way a mother should, it is probably due to the bad example set forth by her own mother and sister. And what about the actions of Abdul Rehman? He was perfectly content being intimate with his fiancé but couldn’t take responsibility for his actions.
Khalil didn’t want to believe that Abdul Rehman wasn’t his real father. He was trying to avoid the moment of truth by busying himself with his studies. The scene where he broke down was brilliant. Khalil has always been close to Abdul Rehman and that confrontation was much needed. I’ve never been a fan of Farhan Agha but I have to say, this is definitely going down as one of his finer performances. For a newbie, Adnan Malik has been phenomenal as the angry young man and Mahira Khan has done complete justice to the role of Shano. Even though fate has other plans for them, Shano and Khalil have a connection that can’t be ignored. Her hopes for him becoming a success one day and his hopes for her being happy show how truly and selflessly they love each other. The emotional quotient was riding high in this episode and I think we’re nearing the end. I think even though this was a much better episode , I really would like it to end.
