Qaid E Tanhai Episode 7 Review

So I’ll start by admitting that Qaid-E-Tanhai didn’t really catch my eye the first time I saw an ad for it. It seemed to me like another cry baby drama. Then I learned that it was written by Umera Ahmed, so I decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately, even after watching the first episode, I didn’t really like it. It seemed way too much like Meri Zaat, in both acting and execution.  But, since it seems to be growing very popular lately, I’ll give it a try.

Episode 7 though, I did actually like.  Moiz’s family’s reaction to Ayesha and Noor leaving was pretty anger-inducing to me. The way I see it, Ayesha is their maid; actually, she’s more than a maid. She cooks, cleans, takes care of everyone, and is raising their brother’s daughter. She never complains, and is doing everything for free. They just have to bring her some ugly clothes and let her eat a roti or two, and she’ll do whatever they want. And when they’re angry, they can always empty their anger out onto Ayesha, because she’ll never say a word back to them. So obviously, they’re devastated when they hear that Moiz is trying to take her away from them.

There’s also Noor’s character, who I like a lot. Sometimes though, her anger at her mother gets a tad annoying. I mean, she’s in the dark about what happened in the past just like we are. So if her mother keeps telling her that she’s not worthy enough, obviously her warnings are arbitrary. Then again, Noor’s behavior is usually justified. Ayesha’s character is the one that annoys me the most. I don’t know what she did to make her suffer all of this; she might be innocent or she might not be. She’s hollow and deeply saddened. But that doesn’t mean that she should let someone walk all over her like the Amma and the rest of the family members are doing. She NEVER says a word to any of them! Itna seeda to koi bhi nahi hota. Noor is right for being so angry towards her.

There’s 2 relationships shown in this drama that I really like, both involving my favorite character: Furhan. The first is between Furhan and Ayesha. I can really see the depth of their relationship when I watch this drama. From Furhan’s standpoint, no one in his father’s family cares about him, and he’s mostly right. They all care about themselves. Ayesha is the sole person who has tried to care for him, and he embraces it. He’s a kid, he needs love, and his poor Dad is too busy trying to fend for himself between his shallow siblings. Ayesha shows a lot of affection for Furhan, and he reciprocates it. Ayesha too, is somebody who hasn’t been loved in a very long time. Furhan is giving her that love. In a way, the two are caring for each other.

The second relationship is Furhan and Noor “Appa’s.” Noor hates Furhan. He is her half-brother, but she hates him. She hates everything that has to do with her father. But Furhan has never had a sister before. No matter how nasty Noor is to him, he still cares about her. My favorite scene was when Noor and Furhan were talking at the beach. Noor says “Idiot,” and Furhan replies with “Thank you.” She says “Agar Papa yahan na hotay tou mein tumhari itni pitai karti k tumhari aqal tikhanay ajati,” and he says “I can’t understand, aap ki itni mushkil Urdu hai.” :P

Noor’s character is really well-developed in my opinion. With her circumstances, her personality could have gone two ways. Either she would be really weak like her mother, or full of hatred, as she is now. My favorite dialogue from her is from an earlier episode, when her Dadi says “Kahin aur gaye to apni zuban ki wajaisay do din mein jootay kha k ajaye gi,” and Noor says “Agar zuban ki wajaisay ghar ujar jatein to sab se pehle aap ko ujar jana chahiye tha.”

My other favorite character is Furhan. I like how he isn’t portrayed as some sort of delinquent or selfish brat as most kids from the UK or America are. He’s actually really nice and caring. Furhan has just lost his mother; he’s living in Pakistan, a place he’s never been, and his “weird”  family isn’t helping him adjust. And yet he still cares a lot about Ayesha Aunty and Noor Appa.  His character is my favorite throughout the entire drama. Just one thing I have to point out though: Furhan lived in the UK all his life. So why does he speak with an American accent? :P

I realize that the review must be very long, but since it’s the first one for QET, I got a bit into character analysis and whatnot. Anyway, I still haven’t generated a lot of interest for this drama, but since it’s one of the only good ones on air right now, I’ll keep watching.

P.S Could somebody tell me in the comments whether the actor playing Furhan is the kid from Vasl? Thanks J
