We’re already at the 14th episode of this amazing serial, which makes me sad as it means that it will be ending soon! Episode 14 progressed the story tons without making it seem too rushed, another reason to applaud the writer Moomal Shunaid and director Sarmad Khoosat.
The episode starts out in the hospital, where Sana (Saba Qamar) is being taken to the emergency room. She had taken sleeping pills in an attempt to kill herself, and Arfa (Samina Peerzada) and Adarsh (Mikaal Zulfiqar) had found her on the floor. One of the only critiques I would have to give the director is that nobody falls right to the floor the second they swallow sleeping pills. But as pretty much every drama over-exaggerates these types of scenes, I’ll let it pass.
Sana’s character is such an unfortunate one, that I can barely stand to watch her suffering. Everything in her life has gone so wrong that she finally got fed up and tried to commit suicide. And though this is just a drama, we can’t call it unrealistic by saying that nobody’s life is that sad. Believe it or not, there are real people out there with situations similar to Sana’s, which makes it even harder to watch them on-screen. Sana’s current mind-set that she brings bad luck everywhere she goes is justified by the events that have taken place. She sincerely believes that she’s to blame for her mother and brother’s deaths and for the unrest in Adarsh’s household. I think her main worry right now is that the baby isn’t Adarsh’s. Can you imagine what that would be like? If it turns out that the baby is Saad’s (Ahsan Khan), the guy who raped her, then how could she live knowing that she was giving birth to the child of the man who ruined her life?
And while Sana is in the hospital, Adarsh is over with Sasha (Juggan Kazim). Adarsh tells her that he can’t divorce Sana because she tried to commit suicide, and Sasha tells him “Woh ghar ke haalat kharab karna chahti hai taake tum usse divorce na de sako.” This dialogue makes me really angry. How much of an insensitive brat can you be? Somebody tries to commit suicide, and you make it out to be a plea for attention?
Adarsh agrees that he’ll have to divorce her soon, and goes home to do just that. However, when he gets there, Arfa informs him that he can’t divorce his wife while she is pregnant. Adarsh yells “Agar woh bacha mera hai hi nahin tou mein talaq kyun nahin de sakta?” His father (Firdous Jamal) flips out at these words and angrily kicks him out of the house in a bout of applaud-worthy acting. Firdous Jamal is already a much esteemed actor, but I’ve pointed out his marvelous acting skills in this scene anyway. Adarsh leaves, but not before saying “Meri iss giri wi baat k peeche raaz kya hai apni biwi se zaroor puch ye ga!”
So Arfa comes clean. She tells him everything, and instead of getting angry like she thought, Adarsh’s father is in fact pretty sad. “Mujhe beti ki tamanna hamesha se thi,” he says, “Tumhari beti bhi tou meri beti hoti na?” He and Dua and Arfa finally have a heart-to-heart…to heart.
Adarsh goes back to Sasha and tells him that they can get married as Sana has given him permission. Sasha becomes furious at this, because Adarsh was supposed to divorce Sana, not gain permission. He tells Sasha that he can’t divorce Sana because she’s pregnant, and suddenly, it’s as if someone has yanked the ground out from beneath Sasha’s feet. She’s devastated to hear that Sana is pregnant, and though I hate her, I agree with her there. Adarsh is going crazy over her, but his love isn’t real. He apparently loved her, but then he was forced to marry Sana, and as we saw a couple episodes back, he was treating her with the same caring he treated Sasha. The second he found out about her past, he went right back to Sasha, but that’s not love, that’s majboori. She’s right in saying “Agar tum mujhse hamesha se pyar karte the, usse nafrat karte the, tou woh pregnant kaise huwi?” Sasha kicks him out of her hotel room and goes back home, where her mother (Sumbul) was obviously expecting her to return to in the end.
And then Adarsh comes home, where Sana is waiting for him. She should have just kept her mouth shut, but she’s a human too, and, despite knowing that Adarsh doesn’t like her, she felt betrayed that he got re-married. So she asks “Ab tou aap khush hain? Shaadi kar ke agaye?” Adarsh flips out at these words and yells “Meri shaadi nahin barbaadi huyi hai!”, and beats the heck out of her while yelling about how much he hates her. His father comes in and stops him, kicking him out of the house and telling him to never return. They take Sana to the hospital again, as she quickly loses consciousness. We then see Sana in the hospital beat up and bruised, remembering Adarsh yelling “Mein tum se nafrat karta hoon!” at her over and over again. No matter how estranged her relationship with him was, he was still her husband, and the fact that he hated her so much that he nearly killed her was enough to depress her out. She gets up and leaves the hospital, and we’ll have to wait till next episode to find out where she’s gone.
One thing I’d like to point out is that it’s pretty impossible for a beat-up patient to just walk out of the hospital without anyone noticing. But I’ll reserve judgment on that, as we might see her sneaking out while nobody’s looking in the next episode.
Saba Qamar’s acting in this episode was insane. You could tell by the pitch of her voice and every expression on her face how desperate her character was, especially when she gives Adarsh permission to marry Sasha and begs him not to leave the house. And though I didn’t like Mikaal Zulfiqar’s acting before, I must admit that it’s really picked up in this episode, particularly in the scene where he yells at Sana and beats her up. Speaking of this scene, I’ll have to point out how wonderful both the acting and directing were. It was a really intense scene, but unfortunately, most dramas don’t do justice to these types of acts. They all have horribly feigned slaps and voices that sound mechanical and overly-acted. However, nothing like that happened in this scene. In fact, it seemed so real that I’m still not sure whether Mikaal Zulfiqar really slapped Saba Qamar to the floor or not.
This drama is officially my favorite currently on-air drama. I can’t wait until next episode, and I can’t wait to see where this story goes.
