With the second episode we are getting to know more about the characters, their history, present and future plans. The progress rate is commendable and the drama has become even more fascinating.
” Thana aurtoon k jaanay k jagah nahi hai “, one sentence that said it all. Police stations are not safe for women, ironic but true. It is a man’s world and even if a woman wants to get justice, she needs a man by her side. Hamna and Khadija are therefore dependent on Hamna’s Taya, a reality which both sides understand very well.
Haider wants to bring Tabdeeli/Inqeelaab/ Baihteri, so to improve the state of the country, but he is very conveniently ignoring the people closest to him. He wants to fight the system , he cares about paying the fees of a widows’ son but what will happen to his sisters future if he dosen’t learn to be polite with his Taya or what happens to his family if he wrote in jail, are simple realities he is ignoring. It reminds me of a similar drama I watched years ago, where Faisal Qureshi played the same role and his father played by Farooq Zameer Sahab Very aptly said ” ghar main aatay ki Borri to la nahi sakta, mulk main Inqeelab layay ga “. Why not start with your own home and then worry about the rest of the world, since there is no other male figure supporting the family.
Now Asfandar Sultan has entered Haider’s world. The man is still pretty much a mystery but all we know at this point is that he is a very influential and principled bureaucrat. Haider has decided to join him, as long as he dosen’t have to compromise on his ideology. Let’s see how long will this mutually beneficial relationship work.
Tahir Malik is a typical landlord/politician, his approach towards women is the same as his approach towards any other possession. Even if she is another man’s wife, that is not a problem, he can start an affair, get her divorced and then marry her. An approach which reminds me of a number of our very well know politicians.
Atiqa Odho and Rehan Sheikh, these two share such amazing chemistry, I didn’t want their scene to end. They know eachother so well, the taany, tanz, jalli katti…OMG they are wonderful. Amazing characterization and dialogues. They are aware of eachother’s past and keep an eye on their present activities, no secrets :)
Thankfully Sara is by no means a baychari aurat who was used and disposed off by a wealthy, influential man, she is a smart woman. Despite of her insecurities, selfishness and depression, she is moving on. The way she was trying to convince Jamal to marry her was brilliant. She played all her cards well, confessing her love, convincing him she is only in it for true love , trying to make him jealous and at the same time asking for his protection so she wouldn’t have to fear her ex, it was very well played. But Jamal seems like a seasoned player, he is in no mood to get trapped, so Sara did what she had to do…announced their marriage to Mishal, so Jamal couldn’t back off. On a not so serious note, she claimed ” I have been looking for true love all my life but never found it ( please keep in mind she has been married thrice ) , I just couldn’t help but recall that Umer Shareef Shahab joke ” 10 bachoon k baad , baihn Sacha Pyar nahi milla :) “..
Mishal’s anger against both her parents is justified. Her father abandoned her and never looked back, her mother has been married thrice, it is thanks to the turbulent relationship between her parents and her mother’s reputation that she has to face a lot. People judge her based on their opinions of her parents’ reputation. Although she has tried to keep her image clean, people still judge her. The title therefore is very apt, it reflects the opinion of the average people who donot know the showbiz personalities personally but love to judge them on the basis of hearsay.
The writer has given us characters who are people all around us. Mishal is a girl who is trying to maintain her dignity and self respect in a profession which objectifies women, even a top model like Mishal cannot say NO to a designer without having to face her wrath and the wrath of the industry. The viewers, the average people blame the women in such professions for being ” Besharam ” but don’t want to look any deeper than the surface. It is very easy to target Mishal but who are the bigger fish…no one cares.
Haider is strong but I feel Mishe is stealing the show week after week. Childhood scars, they never really heal do they ? Mishal manages to keep herself calm and composed while arguing with her father, she managed the argument fairly well but the moment the words ” Mughay chor ker kyun gay ” came out, she couldn’t hide the pain anymore, the only option was to rush to the safety of her own room so no one can see her tears. It’s tragic when you have to pretend to be brave all the time, when you don’t have a shoulder to cry on.
Hamna is a soft spoken, kindhearted sweet girl and Qadeer is absolutely insensitive. ” Apni Baat ” Hamna kaisay karay Jub us ka ikloota Bhai jail main hai Aur us ki baywa maa ro ro k halkaan ho rahi hai ? A relationship is not just about romance, it is about being there for eachother in the time of need. Saba is therefore a lot better than her brother, she convinced her father to do something for Haider, if not for his sake then for the sake of the family’s Honour. She knows how to handle her own dad :) smart girl. In Qadeer’s defense, yes he did ask for ” his parents permission ” to help Haider but it would have been nice of him to be more considerate with Hamna. Sometimes all you need are a few words of kindness.
Haider’s jacket, Saba’s sudden trip to Makli graveyard and then jumbling up so many scenes together, we’re the things that didn’t make much sense to me. I guess the logic behind the scenes is that the director wanted to put all the powerful scenes together to increase the impact. The OST is beautiful and melodious, it brings the much needed softness to the emotionally charged situations. The direction and script are praiseworthy, the acting is spot on and all in all this drama is a must watch. It is so fascinating, I want to discuss each and every scene, thus the lengthy reviews :)
