Remember: VOTING IS CURRENTLY OPEN!
Following is a brief review of the nominees, which you should read after you vote:
Best Actress
1) Savera Nadeem (Qaid-e-Tanhai)
2) Saba Qamar (Main Chand Si)
3) Aamina Shaikh (Umme Kulsoom)
4) Ayesha Khan (Paarsa)
5) Mahira Khan (Humsafar)
DB: All the nominees are spot on except Mahira Khan. For crying out loud, why is she being placed at par with the likes of Sawera, Aamina and Ayesha Khan? Granted she has put in commendable effort in Neeyat and Humsafar but really, would you nominate someone as best actress simply because the drama serial is popular? The sad part is, she might even win. Honestly, what is the world coming to? I would say it should be a close call between Ayesha and Aamina – both of them have done a great job in different roles and proved themselves to be versatile actresses.
Best Actor
Faisal Qureshi (Umme Kulsoom)
Ahsan Khan (Meray Charagar)
Fahad Mustafa (Main Abdul Qadir Hoon)
Imran Abbas (Khuda Aur Muhabbat)
Fawad Khan (Humsafar)
DB: I have no doubt that Fawad Khan will win this award, and of course, with back-to-back excellent acting in Akbari Asghari, KPKPBT and Humsafar, it would be spot on. However, I would probably go for Fahad Mustafa considering the many diametrically opposed roles he has played throughout the year in the form of the lost-then-guided soul (Main Abdul Qadir Hoon), loving husband (Zindagi Dhoop Tum Ghana Saya), insecure husband (Main Chaand Si), misguided soul (Pul Sirat), angry son (Maaye Ni), politician (Mastana Mahi) and others. In every drama serial, he has done justice to the roles he has played. Hence, he very much deserves this award.
Best Drama Serial
1) Mera Naseeb
2) Main Abdul Qadir Hoom
3) Roag
4) Mera Saaein
5) Uraan
6) Khuda Aur Muhabbat
7) Qaid-e-Tanhai
8) Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan
9) Maat
10) Humsafar
DB: Personally, I would go for KPKPBT because no other drama has given me so much conversational currency (here, there and everywhere). BUT if I take into account the story, the dialogues, the acting, the direction, and the overall “package” then I would give the award to Uraan. Yep, this drama serial has not really received as much recognition as it should have. However, considering what a “fan” of Umera Ahmed I am generally, this was the one which really had me hooked. It had suspense, it had drama AND most of all, it showed women to be more than just the usual have-nothing-to-do-except-make-others’-lives-miserable-ladies.
Best Director
1) Baber Javed (Qaid-e-Tanhai)
2) Yasir Nawaz (Uraan)
3) Haissam Hussain (Akbari Asghari)
4) Adnan Ahmed (Mera Naseeb)
5) Sarmad Khoosat (Humsafar)
DB: For some reason, Qaid-e-Tanhai never appealed to me and the way it dragged and the terrible way it switched from flashbacks to present was a huge turn-off. I would go for Sarmad Khoosat here (Humsafar) with Adnan Ahmed (Mera Naseeb) in close pursuit. Humsafar’s direction has been excellent, as has been discussed in many episode reviews here. And Sarmad truly deserves this award.
Best Writer
1) Umera Ahmed (Qaid-e-Tanhai)
2) Samira Fazal (Mera Naseeb)
3) Umera Ahmed (Uraan)
4) Sarwat Nazir (Main Abdul Qadir Hoon)
5) Farhat Ishtiaq (Humsafar)
DB: In case any one is wondering, I am definitely NOT all for giving every single award to Humsafar. But I do think the way the story has been told is beautiful. Farhat Ishtiaq – this award is for you. She has adapted the story for the screen wonderfully and it has been a treat to watch. I am all for her winning it!
Best Dialogues
1) Qaid-e-Tanhai
2) Pul Sirat
3) Uraan
4) Main Abdul Qadir Hoon
5) Humsafar
DB: Where the heck is Mera Naseeb? Honestly, I think this drama serial had the best dialogues. But in any case, since it is not there, I would give this award to Uraan.
Best Jodi (Couple)
1) Sawera Nadeem and Faisal Qureshi (Qaid-e-Tanhai)
2) Sanam Baloch and Fawad Khan (Akbari Asghari)
3) Sami Khan and Saba Qamar (Main Chaand Si)
4) Imran Abbas and Sadia (Khuda Aur Muhabbat)
5) Fawad Khan and Mahera Khan (Humsafar)
DB: Fawad and Mahira should win hands down. Their couple has definitely been the best so far.Unfortunately, none of the others in the list had much on-screen chemistry. And personally, I think Fawad and Sanam had more on-screen chemistry in KPKPBT, but of course, you cannot count them as a ‘couple’ there in any sense of the word.
Best Actress in Negative Role
1) Saba Qamar (Maat)
2) Atiqa Odho (Humsafar)
3) Saba Hameed (Main Abdul Qadir Hoon)
4) Naveen Waqar (Humsafar)
DB: Saba Qamar wins hands on, if it were up to me. Honestly, she has done a GREAT job in Maat. I find some glaring omissions in this category though. How about Ayeza Khan in Maaye Ni? Or Saba Hameed in Kaala Jadu? Even Bushra Ansari did a great job in Mera Naseeb.
Best Actor in Negative Role
1) Faisal Qureshi (Umme Kulsoom)
2) Humayun Saeed (Uraan)
3) Nauman Ejaz (Mera Saaein)
4) Faisal Qureshi (Ek Hatheli Pay Hina)
DB: Nauman Ejaz! Definitely! The Saaein was the most negative character and he did a great job!
Out of the twenty categories, I have reviewed 10 in this post. The other ten coming up in another. Remember folks, voting is open now. Chop chop!
