It’s the latest buzz. This teleplay produced by Adeel Farhan is most likely amongst the most popular teleplays for this Eid. Hitting all cords, this teleplay scores a brilliant full score amongst most of its viewers. I often look at scripts and look for a moral to the story but this was pure entertainment, humour in every single bit of it and I fell in love with it. Anything that can make its viewers laugh out loud deserves a standing ovation. The best part of this play is of course the twist. Juliet belongs to none other than her Romeo who sweeps her away. But this is a lot more intriguing than Shakespeare! This has Maani and Daani, yes that’s right, Phuppi ka ladka and Khala ka ladka, whose sole interests are to win Maira. The charming, gorgeous Maira who is so brilliantly played by Hira Tareen. Her charisma fits right in place with the elegant, hard to win beauty that neither of her cousins deserve. Maira is just way too good for either of them!
The credit goes to Maani (also Maani in real life) and Daani (Danish Nawaz) for being the core of this telefilm. A writer can only write well but these two took the entire telefilm to a new level. The sense of humour was unbeatable. Great work to the both of them for not letting the viewers down at any single point of the play.
A big thumbs up to Omar Essa for the brilliant direction. The cinematography was right on the spot. For a relaxing evening comedy, the team did well. For direction, I would rate it 8/10 because there is room for improvement. As a viewer, I would have preferred a bit less Punjabi type scenes. They were stretched and dragged the play on beyond imagination. They may be amusing to others but weren’t to me. If I want to watch fake fights on TV, I can watch Indian movies from the 80s with the background punching sounds.
Now my moment of truth – for the actual script by Zain Raza – I would give it a 9/10 because this differs from the original. I had the privilege of reading the original script a year ago, on a plane. Believe me, I drove the man sitting beside me insane by laughing every minute of the two hours that it took me to read this amazing play. The original was much funnier and gave me stomach cramps. The biggest credit goes to the cast including Aamir Qureshi (the villan- Pappu) who managed to take this script on so professionally.
A happy ending to a great comedy fairytale. Wouldn’t it be nice if life was like that in reality! Repeat telecast – would I watch it? – Hell YEAH :D
Overall score: 8/10
