Call me naive, but I had actually hoped that the last episode of Neeyat would be more interesting than the whole drama itself. Oh, how disappointed I am feeling right now! The entire last episode was as boring and as long drawn out as the entire drama serial itself. In the end, the whole ‘drama’ (in the truest sense of the word) completed a 360 degrees turn and came right back to where it had started from. In short, what a complete waste of twenty episodes!
I had called Aila a get-a-life character. In this episode, she proved I had been totally spot on. Throughout the entire episode, she was harping about going to Pakistan and in the end, she tells Sikander – not without you! I didn’t find it remotely romantic, sorry to say.
Oh, and what was with that Humayun Saeed scene towards the end, with the title track playing in the background? Was it the span of a day or a year? I wanted to laugh out loud – it was certainly meant to be a day since Aila was catching a flight ‘day after tomorrow’ after Maryam left. Also, did that scene remind anyone of SRK in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna? Interestingly, that was New York, too.
Oh boy, I can just go on and on. But let me reiterate that direction-wise, the drama was excellent. Acting-wise, it was pretty decent; Mahira Khan, however, has a long, long way to go. Considering it was her debut, she did make an effort. The title track, of course, was beyond amazing. The entire problem was the script, and a lack of any constructive story. It failed to make an impact and it definitely failed to capture the viewer’s attention.
I am looking forward to Mehreen Jabbar’s next venture, which is Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu written by Farhat Ishtiaq and starring Adeel Hussain, Sarwat Gillani and Sanam Saeed. I have not read the novel, but I definitely hope that it will be something worth watching – like Doraha.
