N for Newyork, N for Neeyat :) I don’t know if I should talk about the wonderful Newyork, or the fresh serial by our very own Mehreen Jabbar aka MJ .
Neeyat is a new drama serial, directed by mehreen Jabbar that talks about a life of a normal Out of status Pakistani living in Newyork. Since most of our readers are overseas Paksitanis, I am pretty sure that they will connect to it instantly.
Set in the back drop of Newyork. Neyaat tells a story of a Pakistani illegal immigrant (Humyun Saeed) who has just lost his job because of the recession. One of the main reasons of him being the victim is the fact that he is not having a legal status. Here comes in Mahira Khan, His GF who comes with an idea of him getting into a paper marriage for the sake of a green card.
So this is the basic plot line. And what will happen from here is something that Neeyat is going to be about.
I have always found Mehreen Jabbar’s direction, fast, and to the point, she doesn’t drag the story and gets directly to the point, which is the USP of her direction let it be VASL, Daam or the new serial Neeyat. Her unique style of storytelling put her far ahead of her peers. But let’s pause for a minute and talk about something that made me watch Neeyat.
I have always loved Newyork. The Brooklyn bridge Verrazano Bridge (My fav), The sky scrapper buildings, time square, central park, people reading books almost everywhere, the subways and not to forget the extremely fit girls :)
Newyork remains my favorite city, I still remember how I watched kal ho na ho 3 times in a row just because of new york and then went there to actually see what the city was all about. I was awestruck by the beauty of it and that was one of the reasons why I took time out to actually watch the serial on youtube.
Episode 1 was merely about getting to know the characters and the basic plot of the drama. There is Humuyan saeed who is struggling because of his illegal status. Mahira Khan who loves Him a lot. Ahsan khan who loves mahira and then we have deepti, a homeless. Jobless, flamboyant nyc girl who is a struggling actress as well. Oh btw , we saw you mehreen J during the audition scene J …..
The only thing that really wowed me about Neeyat 1st episode was
- The cinematography
- The beautiful depiction of Newyork.
Neeyat depicts a different image of Pakistani dramas. The Camera work, the colors as well as the handling of the subject have put this drama a product that We Pakistanis can easily be proud of. Neeyat is fresh and has been executed brilliantly. The only weak link however in the story is Ahsan khan, I personally think that he does not suit the role he has been given, I guess Faisal Qureshi might have been a better choice. But this is strictly my opinion. Mahira Khan is fresh and she looks beautiful in the serial. Humyun Saeed is complete natural and his presence adds so much spark in the serial. Deepti is a wonderful Actor. Her role in the drama seems much different than the one she had in malaal.
At this point, its all wait and watch. Lets see how Neeyat shapes up later. From what we have seen in the 1st episode, it does promise to be a serial to watch in this season. However I feel that thecompetition is really tough in this particular season, Akbari ashgari, Mastana Mahi, Mera Naseeb , Umm e Kulsoom, all have very powerful story line.
