OK, I must admit my initial enthusiasm for Nadamat – after viewing the first episode – extinguished to a large extent in the subsequent few episodes. However, after seeing the production team marketing the serial on Facebook, I thought I should write something by way of feedback and point out why a story that definitely had potential has fallen flat on its face.
The serial took off on a very strong note, taking us from the present to the past. Even the second and third episodes, which had explained the background of the lead characters along with their varying circumstances were worth watching and capable of keeping one hooked to the screen. We found out the background of Dr. Tania – her father, her “shady” stepmother, and docile step-sister. We discovered more about Nasir and the past shared by his wife and his younger brother. However, a couple of more episodes down the line, the plot of the two “families” became eerily similar and hence, you could feel your interest waning.
Both families have two brothers. Both husbands now suspect their their wife is having a fling with the younger brother. Both of them are behaving coldly towards their respective wives. Similarity of plots leads to similarity of dialogues. Hence, watch the drama at any point now and you will not feel as if you have missed anything. This, more than anything, has resulted in my lost interest in this drama serial – it is more than enough to just watch the preview and the recap.
Also, I don’t know if it is just me, but for some reason, none of the characters are really “into it” – Sanam Baloch is just not clicking as Dr. Tania. Maybe it is too huge a change after her negative roles as Akbari and Kiran. Also, her style of speaking seems a little too ancient – considering that this is 2012, her “hum” way of speaking gets on your nerves after a while. The actor playing Rohail, Sonia Hussain and Taifoor Khan are totally expression-less. Sajid Hasan and Shahood Alvi seem more than disinterested in the roles they are playing. Shakeel had done a great job in his guest appearance but the rest of the supporting cast is not doing very great.
All things considered, I would request Fars Entertainment and the production team to go for a stronger script with diverse tracks and characters to which the public can relate. Having well-known faces like Sajid Hasan, Shakeel, Sanam Baloch, Shahood Alvi and Xalay Sarhadi can achieve little if the script is weak with the same monologue in every episode. This serial has not yet ended – I am still following it, hoping for some twists and turns to come. Let’s hope I am not disappointed.
