Allegations of not being constant with my first drama review, me cribbing too much about lack of feedback and in between a personal tragedy in my life. That’s what sums up my reviewing experience at dramapakistani so far. Still here I am reviewing my second drama Hum TV’s Na Kaho Tum Meray Naheen.
Maat huee still rings in my mind. Why? Because the lyrics were sort of so melancholic and the drama emphasized their impact. Infact, when the serial Maat was on air, my mother used to call it Maat Huee and not Maat. Wonder if it impacted your lives in the same way or not. It was a trend setter in the sense that it gave rise to the wave of two ‘warring sisters’ out to destroy each other’s happiness at every cost. This wave is carrying on till this day and age and poor Haseena Moin is trying hard to break into this somehow through her sugary sweet on-screen sisters.
So Na Kaho Tum Meray Naheen (NKTMN) is from the same director Amna Nawaz Khan but the writer this time is Maha Malik and not Umera Ahmed. So how do they fare together and is the director able to recreate the magic of Maat. Too early to say but this episode made for interesting watch which very few first episodes do.
The story is basically of Meerab (Ahsan Khan) and Mehru (Saba Qamar). Both are a middle class couple married for some years. They have two children Meeran and Umaima and have a hard time meeting both ends meet especially since Meerab supports the entire family of his elder sister Bano Apa (Saba Faisal). This discomforts Mehru but Meerab loves his cunning sister so much that he would not hear anything against Bano Apa. Meerab and Mehru are visited by Maya (sorry I don’t know the name of the girl playing this character) who happens to be their classmate and Mehru’s friend from university. Mehru married a very rich man and moved to US. She’s back now and her life is in total contrast of Mehru’s in terms of financial situation.
Spoiler Alert: The promos and my sixth sense tells me that Bano Apa’s preying on Meerab would lead to Mehru stepping outside the job or she’d probably start working in Maya’s company. This would constrain Meerab-Mehru relationship or probably Maya would step in with Meerab (the way she looks at him makes me think so).
This episode has three interesting things. One the four Ms (Mehru, Meerab, Maya and Meeran) of Meerab’s track. Secondly the two Fs (Faiz and Feezat – son and daughter of Bano Apa) of Bano Apa’s track. Wonder if it’s on purpose or just a coincidence. Thirdly, Bano’s Apa’s entire family i.e. she herself, Mazhar Bhai, Faiz and Feezat are in complete connivance of each other and pester Meerab for their smallest expenses. None of them has any conscience, wonderful!
That I really like Saba Qamar as an actress goes without saying. So am I extra sweet towards her when I say that she sinks into her character as a pro. You are better judges but I feel she’s done a commendable job as mother of two kids and wife of a committed family person. Ahsan Khan impresses also.
Overall it was a good episode and has the potential of becoming a hit especially since it touches a topic many women can relate to. Let’s also hope that I remain consistent this time like Faraz wants me to J
