Many Pakistani dramas show hardships faced by women in our culture. Sometimes, they deal with inequality, sometimes infamy, and so on. But our dramas seldom show what hardships men may have to face in our culture and society. That is what is different about this drama. ‘Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai’ is a story of a man named Arham (Ahsan Khan), who was accused of and punished for the sin he didn’t commit and how one incident had such a strong impact on his life, strong enough to change his whole personality.
First of all, I love everyone’s performance, especially Ahsan Khan. I was amazed by the way he portrayed Arham’s character! I think this is by far his best performance I have seen. Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Khan and Momal Sheikh also performance very well. The cast is one of the factors that lured me in and I can say I am very satisfied with this cast.
I really like the story. As I mentioned earlier, it’s not your typical drama serial where the story always focuses on the difficulties that women face in our society; for example, dramas would usually focus on women if an incident such as this one occurs. But in Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai, the story focuses on Arham and how he has been dealing with a life where not even his own family trusts him. Think about it, what would you do if the whole world turned against you all of a sudden? How would it feel like if your own family looked at you with mistrust, despite knowing you inside-out; despite being with you your whole life? Asking myself these same questions, I already feel so much pain. It’s natural for anyone to go into depression and even take extreme steps such as committing suicide, God forbid. Arham went through the same situation. He was just about to kill himself when he heard the Azaan. It was a reminder, yes, “Allah is the Greatest”. ‘Allah will help me, Allah will bring me justice’, Arham felt better thinking that. This scene was one of the best scenes in the drama. It was simply beautiful! Ahsan Khan’s acting was at its best when Arham broke down and when he was about to commit suicide and stopped. I honestly cried because those feelings were so strong. All this time, his belief that Allah will help him has kept him alive. Allah’s support was enough for him to refuse to die. But because of his circumstances, he has developed a complex. And the one who slowly helps him get out of it is Areeba (Momal Sheikh). Friend of Arham’s sister, Sara, Areeba came to their house to stay for some time. She was always curious about Arham’s strange behavior. Without ever wanting to know what Arham went through in the past, Areeba gives Arham strength by believing in him and encouraging him. They get married, despite some ‘interruptions’.
Oh! Aren’t we forgetting someone? Yes, ‘ The fasaad ki jar’, Narmeen!
It was Narmeen who first changed Arham, engaged to him, became interested in his older brother, Shaiq (Mikaal Zulfiqar), framed Arham, and made him suffer in the worst way possible, just so that she can get married to Shaiq. Now that is the frontier and selfishness and evil! I feel very bad for Shaiq. He has to deal with the most difficult wife in the world. I like his character because he isn’t short-tempered and knows how to deal with different situations, leaving his ego behind. He believed Arham, but only to some extent. Since he is torn between his brother and wife, he does not give that issue a lot of thinking. He is smart enough to not believe whatever Narmeen says, which keeps him and Arham on good terms with each other.
As for Narmeen, I am feeling satisfied now that she is getting the taste of her own bitter medicine. I would have been so angry if she succeeded in framing Arham again. It’s a good thing Areeba is mature and trust Arham.
Of course, along with a lot of positives, the drama serial has some flaws. First of all, the story is slow-paced. It’s true that the purpose of the pace is to get the point across properly but keeping the audience’s interest is important too. Secondly, the way of transitioning from present scenes to past scenes and vice versa confuses the audience. I, too kept getting confused at time, ‘Is this the past or the present?’, I kept thinking. Lastly, I thought that some outcomes were a little unrealistic. Some felt too convenient. For example, the way Arham’s father offered Shaiq for marriage (*cough* as a sacrifice *cough*), I thought that was too convenient and a little odd. I thought that somehow, Narmeen’s mother will somehow get Arham’s parents to think about it. Another thing was that they went from one extreme to the other when it came to trusting Arham after the incident. At first, everyone was absolutely sure Arham wouldn’t do such thing but later on, because of some report, the all suddenly stopped believing in him. I was so angry when his own mother trust in him. I mean, she is his mother! He was expecting her to believe in him! How could she doubt him?! Oops! I got off track *Apologies*
Overall, I think Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai is a really good drama serial. I really enjoyed watching it and I am eagerly waiting for the next episode! And I absolutely love the OST! It’s very beautiful! I hope Arham is proven innocent soon! (Hang in there a little longer Arham!)
