So there is over the top, then there is edging dangerously close to the cliff’s edge and finally jumping into abyss below. No points for guessing who went over board today.
While Alia didn’t have a great run last week she is merely backing up to the cliff’s edge. Khala on the other hand, has taken the plunge and no life line can help pull her up and out of there. Though, clearly Farah Shah is having a whale of a time waving checks around and plotting in her loud, pushy, greedy avatar.
Well at least these characters have reason for their selfishness. The crown however, for the most appalling character has to go to Nabeel. Despite cute-sy dialogue about being ‘priceless’ (which in terms of the running tab is actually is 15K salary + 50K phone+ phone ka bill+ 20 Lakhs maangi deposit and counting) , I find his throwing money at the problem attitude and quite literally buying off khala’s clan quite despicable. I told you he has dubious business practices. What’s this phenomenon of buying off others anyway? (here and here and of course, right here.)
Romaisa as any self-respecting gal should be, is rightly offended even if she remains conflicted about her one chance at freedom – though escape into what? A family that isn’t accepting her with open arms and the other one whose list of wants will keep her forever chained to them. Nabeel’s father rightly points this out as well which our man shrugs off.
While khala’s ek lauta is threatening khudkhusi, the other family members are too busy enjoying the spoils of ‘shapping’. Nabeel’s family is busy huffing and puffing their displeasure and leaving him to fend for himself. Undaunted, Nabeel pushes on and secures Romaisa’s hand though underhand dealings of his own.
However, I find it hard to believe that close family would not be party to his engagement and impending shaadi. Though what do I know – I don’t live in palatial homes with swimming pools whose residents throw around money like water and bait folks with jobs and their clans with cash and nary a thought to the consequences. (Nabeel, call me!)
Also annoying was Romaisa’s friend equating the good life with materialistic gains. No one seems to take heed to Romaisa’s concerns which might be anticipating something ominous. Sanam Jung I’ll admit is getting a little better and for someone who has learnt to suppress every happy feeling is naturally cautious about the materialistic melee about her.
Nabeels character traits and constantly being so wallet happy are racking up against him, perhaps the only saving grace is that hes being played by Mikaal Zulfikar.Mikaal is proving to be adept at handling his both the comic and serious bits not to mention being decidedly shrewd at playing khala’s clan and keeping his family in check.
Overall, this episode saw the plot progress, families huff and puff and looks like someone’s house is about to be blown down.
