Talk about being a smitten kitten. Or maybe being smitten by a kitten is more apt.
Nabeel runs his office like a marital bureau complete with interview questions on parents? siblings? favourite actor? favourite TV star? (did anyone notice Romaisa was lying! Oh btw and if you are asking me Mikaal! Adeel!) and dubious hiring practices optimizing for cluelessness rather than any capability as his manager pointed out.
His cold blooded executive bravado wakes up at the family dining table where he admonishes his siblings for being upset at his largess to another. The siblings for their part, reacted as all shifty subordinates do by passing the blame game.
First of all, your being an enabler is probably what led to this in the first place and your shady decision making as well as ‘social work’ isn’t endearing Nabeel much to me. Though I have to say I like seeing Mikaal in this role – I don’t think we’ve seen him smile so much in a while.
The nicer scenes were the conversations between a young Romaisa and her father as well as the one between Nabeel and Zeeshan which had an air of brotherly fraternity, leg-pulling and a semblance of a relationship. Zeeshan too seems to want to keep away from his family’s ways that hints at an upright, principled and honest approach to life and work. So maybe I was wrong.
Romaisa’s family is easily the more entertaining of the two clans, with Alia and her mother holding fort. You actually look forward to their scenes for an interlude of straight talk and even some heart (though it comes with some strings) diving up their piece of Roamisa’s earnings in a fairly straight forward manner.
While the transitions between the scenes was smooth, I can’t help but think some paring of the scenes would enhance the flow of the narrative. We know Khala isn’t about to part with her cash cow and Nabeel (with new home and cars) is a catch, makes his own decisions and will marry an “Allah main ki Gaye” – that part a little hard to swallow.
On a side note are men really attracted to women who are blanker than a slate? Not harboring a single thought or interest? Prettiness and doe eyes are enough? For her part Saman Jung is vacuous enough to impress Prince Charming who if his brother is to be believed, has a laundry list of ladies.
So far she has noticed that he has hair, so maybe going forward she might not be clueless about his intent. Thankfully we have Alia to enlighten her.
