Since I have been generally harping about a lack of heart-melting love stories in Pakistani dramas in general, I thought of typing up my initial thoughts (read: frustrations) about Mora Piya, which will start from December the 2nd on Geo TV.
Yes, I want to get this exasperation AND frustration out of my system.
Why, you ask. Didn’t I want to see a love story? Of course, I did. Didn’t I want to see a happy couple BEFORE the last episode. You bet I did.
What I did NOT want to see was Amina Shaikh playing the female lead opposite Adeel Hussain. I mean, what were the producers THINKING? It has not even been a year since Daam went on air; really, if Daam had been some unknown low-rated serial, it would not have mattered. But Daam was a HIT. And Adeel was actually Amina’s younger brother. I mean, call me stupid, but the first thing that springs to my mind when I see Amina and Adeel is: Maleeha and Junaid. I am so totally put off. OK, they are not siblings in real, but for crying out loud, wasn’t any female lead available except her? (To add insult to injury, Daam’s repeat telecast is at 7:00 pm on Friday – the same day Mora Piya will be on air at a later time.) I am falling short of adjectives for the director/producer/channel head. I mean, OK, Geo must have realized that they need to come up with something to counter Maat and KPKP, but THIS? Man, am I disgusted.
Not only that, but the promos of the serial thus far show precisely the kind of romance which only makes me feel sick rather than melt my heart. Why, WHY do you need a hugging-in-the-rain scene? Why?(And this kind of hugging-touching romance is seriously increasing in dramas telecast on Geo TV). Believe me, the amount of touching is only inversely proportional to the amount of romantic factor in ANY scene.
Also, I can safely state that most of the couples in my heart-melting list NEVER indulged in such cheap intimacy on screen. They didn’t need to. They conveyed their chemistry with bare minimum physical intimacy which was so endearing about them; they relied on facial expression, dialogue, and quality of interaction.
Overall, I MAY follow this serial out of interest, just to find out what the story really is. But for now, I am really annoyed. Oh, and Mora Piya – the title – is not even an original one. Just Google it and you will find out where else it has been used.
