Mora Piya – Episodes 2 and 3

I have to admit I fast forwarded through most of the episodes 2 and 3 of Mora Piya. For many reasons, the drama has not clicked with me at all. I think the major factor in this is the revelation of the key plot details on Geo’s website. Although I have many issues with Six Sigma Productions, I find it very commendable that they have not revealed anything crucial about KPKPBT so far. In contrast, Filmwala Productions gave away the one specific detail which has destroyed all the suspense.

Back in the good old days, when I would watch dramas on television and not YouTube, there was this one senseless soap where a wedding went on for at least 10 episodes, if not more. I patiently sat through the entire wedding hoopla simply because I was sure something would happen at the end of it. And sure enough, just before the bride was due to sit in the car after rukhsati, it was blown up. (No one was killed except the driver).

Anyway, my point is, with all the lovey-dovey portraits of Ujala and Faisal, why the heck did Filmwala Productions reveal the reason behind their future ‘conflict’? Of course, we know something was going to happen or else the drama would not move forward another episode. But we could have watched every single scene, wondering where the hype of the wedding was leading to. And not only that, they have actually showed the kidnapping scene in the precap, not even letting suspense build up to the wedding itself.

Apart from this, there is another very pertinent point I think the writer did not consider. Reporters/journalists whose lives are in this danger are given some sort of security. Faisal has not exactly been shown to have any modest lifestyle. He could have easily afforded a guard, especially if he was receiving threats.

Also, didn’t he realize he would endanger Ujala’s life by getting married to her? The story would have been more realistic if he had somehow arranged for Ujala to leave the country and learn to live without him because any form of association with her would spell trouble for both of them. Didn’t he take the threats seriously?

For me, the story is problematic and unrealistic on many levels. I do love the way they are spanning out the wedding but they have totally ruined something that could have hooked many viewers easily. On the acting side, I still find Ujala a bit hard to digest. “Tumhein jo karna hai woh tum karo,” she tells Faisal and encourages him to confront the mafia. Easy to say, lady, but not so easy to live. Ujala is about to pay a heavy price for Faisal’s journalism.
