How could Faisal smile and happily pose for family pictures when he knows the baby, that Ujala was cuddling ever so lovingly, is not his? Far from being a symbol of their love, this baby is in fact a harsh reminder of a brutal act that can never be forgotten by either of them. So how do they move forward from this point on? Who, of the two, will blink first?
Today’s episode was an emotional rollercoaster. Fed up of dancing around the issue, Ujala finally confronted Faisal and asked how he intended to deal with this situation. In face of his uncompromising stance on the issue of the “naa-paak” baby, she reminded him of those promises he’d made long-ago, together forever. Lashing out in a poignant confrontation, Ujala threw down the gauntlet: either Faisal accepts the baby or kills them both, the baby and her, otherwise she, alongwith her baby, was just going to walk out of his life and his house. Unable to answer, Faisal finds that running away from Ujala and avoiding these hard questions, however, is hard. At work, his manager, and friend, also questions his emotional withdrawal. Back again at home, Faisal’s dad, ruminating on the tension between the new dad and the baby, questions whether it is was his own inability to be a good parent that is preventing Faisal from bonding with his newborn baby. His mother too questions Faisal’s moodiness. Now that everybody’s picked up on their strained relations, I wonder how much longer can Faisal and Ujala hold on to their dark secret. The episode ended on a cliffhanger with Faisal in an apparently reconciliatory mode and Ujala having made her do-or-die choice. Given their views on the situation how will the two find a middle ground? The pre-cap promises another exciting episode next week.
Aamina Shaikh shone in today’s episode as did Adeel Hussain. Initially hesitant to accept them as a couple, I have to admit that I’ve really come to enjoy seeing them together. Both are intelligent actors and work hard at their craft. The chemistry generated between the two amps up the emotional quotient of a very well-written story. Supporting them ably is the rest of the cast. Firdous Jamal is a natural in his role as Faisal’s dad and the girl playing Faisal’s manager/friend is also well-cast. Director Anjum Shahzad is to be appluaded for telling this story so very creatively. The “conversation,” between Ujala and Faisal, via the lipstick notes on the mirror was beautifully done. So much was conveyed – and no words. Well done!
I, for one, am glad that I did not give up after the first couple of episodes and stuck around to become a regular viewer. Mora Piya is shaping up to be quite the thriller!
