One of the visitors to DramaPakistani remarked that the website is “biased towards Fawwad Khan” and “should review Mora Piya.”
I had Mora Piya on my to-do list, so I finally got around to watching its first episode. Now, I know I was VERY critical in my previous review, BUT I watched it without bearing in mind any prejudices. I even disregarded Maleeha and Junaid, though it is hard to do so. Anyway, but even so, Mora Piya does not really score any points on my list.
The main thing is that the story is VERY straightforward. Faisal and Ujala love each other but Ujala’s father is not in favour of their match simply because Faisal is a TV anchor and has covered sensitive issues related to the land mafia that has earned him death threats. The first episode mainly focused upon how much the two families, who have known each other for thirty years, want them to get married. But Ujala’s father is standing in the way (Of course he has to; how else would the story move forward, DUH!).
I definitely appreciate the fact that the issues journalists face on a daily basis have been given due coverage, and underneath the love story, the serial has portrayed a pertinent issue. However, this is as far as it goes.
The rest of the story is extremely flat. It is very typical and that is the main flaw – if Umera Ahmed or Farhat Ishtiaq had written this, it could have had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the drama actually starts with the “getting drenched in the rain” scene which I watched with dismay. There is also a lot of “telling rather than showing”. This is a DRAMA serial – why are Faisal and Ujala talking about death threats? Why is everyone “discussing” the five previous times Faisal’s proposal has been rejected? Instead of having the long drawn out rain scene, it could have been better to SHOW the death threats in a flashback, or the previous five times Faisal’s parents went to Ujala’s – it would have made a world of difference and the first episode would have been totally action-packed.
In any case, I hope the story will pick up next week. And the characters will talk less. AND Amina Sheikh will not spend so much time in front of the mirror. Sigh!

PS: Do NOT get me started on Adeel Hussain’s acting, especially in the romantic scenes. He does pass off as a decent TV anchor though
