What constitutes a marriage? The sacred union between a man and wife is often depicted in our dramas as part of some grand celebration that simmers down to pointless arguments shortly after the honeymoon period. The extended families have a huge role to play in ensuring the newly weds don’t enjoy marital bliss for very long. Time and again I cringe at the wedding festivities and the rasms that follow. Fortunately, Mol got it right and I can’t express how grateful I am to the team responsible for showing us something real and relatable. After Shereyaar’s parents (Humayoun and Hajra) left in the dead of the night, Shereyaar was prepared to face the music but fortunately for him, Emaan lived up to his expectations and didn’t pry at her in-laws exit- Jo hai uska yakeen… Jo nahin hai uskay vehem mein kyun rahoun? Emaan is an absolute delight- she’s taking things one step at a time. She knows that she’ll need time to get to know Shereyaar and in the interim, she’s playing it by ear. She is treading lightly which is why she didn’t push Shereyaar at the breakfast table when he walked away seemingly irritated at her innocent musing of resuming work.
Shehreyaar is a bit of a time bomb- I think there’s much more to him than meets the eye. His attitude made me wonder about the inevitable clashes between these two strong personalities. Emaan is certainly not going to allow Shereyaar to control her- she has been raised very differently and maybe her mother’s fears aren’t so baseless after all. As happy as she seems right now, a part of her worries for Emaan- Zara Mohdaat raha Karo... knowing that she’s highly opinionated. Not that that’s a bad thing but at the end of the day, it all boils down to how far one is willing to compromise. It takes two to tango and I can sense trouble brewing in the not-so-distant future. Shereyaar didn’t hold back from complimenting his new bride and I liked how the two of them engage in meaningful conversation. It’s nice to see a mature couple who can manage to hold an intellectual conversation without boring the day lights out of the viewers.
Muraad did a fine job of uncovering the lies that Humayoun was feeding him and made up his mind to call of Sajjal’s engagement. I think Hajra made a royal mess of an already awkward situation with her blunt mention of gifts from Shereyaar’s sasuraal. Surely there are better ways of delivering the blow which aren’t as below the belt as this one. After 5 episodes, we finally got to hear from Sajjal and it couldn’t have come at a better time. As much as Zareena tried to play the bechaari card, I liked how Sajjal stood her ground and reminded her mother that it was her decision to call off the engagement since Shereyaar wasn’t present and she felt that something wasn’t right. All these years, Sajjal lived with the notion that one day she will marry Shereyaar so it’s no surprise that she obviously had strong feelings but I’m relieved to see that she values herself far more than any bachpan ki mangni. She urged her mother not to severe ties with her Taaya and Taayi and I can’t help but silently hope that this isn’t just a temporary phase and Sajjal could truly represent the new generation of women who have so much to look forward to except the old men they are expected to marry and serve.
This was definitely one of my favourite episodes till date. Shereyaar’s dialogue- koi bhi tumhaara Mol nahin laga sakta made me wonder about how this man can switch from being romantic to controlling and back. What does Shereyaar expect in a wife ? Is he looking for an equal in Emaan or is he hoping to domesticate her into submissiveness? I think we’re in for a very interesting story here if this is indeed what Mol is about.
A big shoutout to the DoP for capturing the beauty of Sakhar and as always Hum TV for their superior production values that make the drama a visual delight. What did you think about this episode?
