Mohabbat Yun Bhi Honi Thi: Did I Just Watch an Ad?

If Mohabbat Yun Bhi Honi Thi set out to tell a heartfelt story about a couple rediscovering their love, it got a little sidetracked—by Dubai. What should have been an engaging romantic drama turns into an extended travel brochure, with characters rattling off fun facts about the city while hopping from one tourist attraction to another.

The premise had potential: a workaholic husband and his lonely wife, stuck in a routine, get a necessary wake-up call when his mother (Bushra Ansari) arrives for a visit. Sounds like a breezy, family-friendly telefilm that blends romance, humor, and a Dubai sightseeing tour into one neat package.

Unfortunately Saba Qamar, Ahsan Khan and Bushra Ansari are wasted here.

The story revolves around a family who have settled into a comfortable yet emotionally distant life in Dubai. With two children and a demanding routine, their marriage has become more about responsibilities than romance. Enter the mother-in-law, whose visit brings unexpected adventures, tourist traps, and—most importantly—a much-needed spark between the couple.

The telefilm shows Dubai in all its glory, almost as if it’s the third lead. From Urdu-speaking taxi drivers to the ease of travel, Mohabbat Yun Bhi Honi Thi feels like an extended postcard of the city. The family hops from one attraction to another—waterparks, Jumeirah Beach, souks, and luxury malls—with plenty of wide-eyed admiration and drone shots sprinkled in. The setting, though at times feeling like a promotional reel, does provide a visually appealing backdrop for their rekindled romance.

Unsurprisingly, Bushra Ansari is a delight, bringing warmth, humor, and just the right amount of wisdom to the story.

In Mohabbat Yun Bhi Honi Thi, however, the setting often overshadows the characters. The story feels more like a tour guide to Dubai, and less like a relationship blossoming in a new environment. The holiday movie magic? Sadly, missing.

Holiday Movies Done Right

Holiday-themed films can be charming, after all—take Roman Holiday, for example. It’s a love story set in Rome, but its magic comes from the chemistry between the leads and the way the city becomes a backdrop to their developing connection. Similarly, films like The Holiday and Before Sunrise use vacation spots as a means to explore relationships and offer a sense of escapism without losing sight of the story.

But there is not much story to speak of – this is a vacation video with occasional dialogue. This telefilm is as forgettable as a layover in Dubai’s airport—nice visuals, no lasting impact.
