I must admit I have not been a huge fan of Mohabbat Rooth Jaye Toh. I was keeping up with the story mainly through the recaps and previews. In the end, I was simply interested in finding out how writer, Faiza Iftikhar will handle the case of a child marriage versus a love marriage.
I was not disappointed. Faiza Iftikhar handled the entire issue more effectively than Samira Fazal in Mastana Mahi – I was very satisfied that Shahnawaz (Humayun Saeed) stood up to Maryam (Syra Yousuf) and told her that his marriage to her had not been valid at all since she was a minor. This was something I had secretly hoped Adal (Fahad Mustafa) would do in Mastana Mahi. It was very heartening to see that in the end Shahnawaz divorced Maryam and encouraged her to start a new life with someone who was nearer her own age and more compatible with her; it was also satisfactory that Shahnawaz came clean with Shamail (Mahnoor Baloch).
I just wish we had had a glimpse of the future happy life of Maryam and Asad (Azfar). Also, whatever happened to Zain (Adnan Siddiqi)? Also, Shamail seemed to have forgiven Shahnawaz for her miscarriage as well – a little too swiftly I may add.
Overall, this drama had a lot of potential; however, I feel it fell short in many areas. Its pace was too slow and somehow, the on-screen chemistry between Shahnawaz and Shamail was way lesser than Adal and Aleen in Mastana Mahi. And of course, this was another one of those depressing, ‘ronay dhonay walay dramay’ of which viewers are really getting very tired. But all credit goes to the production team for making at least the last episode stand out and ensuring their message had a strong, well-paced finish.
