Today’s episode left me with a sore face- I cringed until I had to grab an ice pack from the freezer. But towards the end, my chuckle turned into laughter and finally tears! So many emotions all in the span of 40 minutes. Let me recap- our suave Haider Masood was in Turkey for a week long conference out of which he could only spare a day for his beloved sister Maria. Because, he’s all work and no play, remember? However, for some bizarre reason, he decided to have a father-son style talk with Sahir about his step-sister (technically half-sister since they share the same biological father). Humein insaaniyat ke naatey, hamdardi se, mohabbat se paish ana chahiye… Hum uskay apney hai na? How exactly does Haider fit into all this? Oh well, let’s not get into that for now since we were spared the sad face today.
A conversation over a cup of coffee with Maria revealed Haider’s sorry past- he was truly, madly, deeply in love with Sajeela. A chatt mangni, patt biyah followed but not before a much younger Sahir was forced to break-dance to save his life. I don’t blame the kid for binge-eating anymore- look what they did to him in his childhood!!!
There was tonnes of romance today- but the kind that makes you sick to your stomach. Does nobody else see the mismatch between Sajeela and Haider? Sajeela didn’t seem to have any daddy issues growing up, why then would she agree to marry a middle-aged man? And the fact that the entire family (yes, all 7 of them) were ecstatic is beyond me! Haider and Sajeela were married but it was far from the fairytale he had hoped for. He’s still fragile from the break-up which explains why he hasn’t remarried yet… But wait, there’s light at the end of the tunnel- Pichli dafa dil se faisla kiya tha, abb aqal aur demaagh se faisla karoun ga… Jab koi mere matlab ki milegi (read jab koi baligh hojaye gi) toh mein shaadi kar loun ga…
For once, I was hoping we’d get to watch an older man playing a mentor not a creepy lover/ stalker to a younger woman. This whole equation with Sajeela was filled with awkward moments. Their ghoomna phirna in Turkey, the attempt at trying to create romance all fell flat. There was zero chemistry between Haider and Sajeela. But thankfully, Sajeela had ulterior motives to agree to the sacred union. She has absolutely no romantic inclinations whatsoever and this marriage was just a sham to get to her loser current husband, Mazhar. I’m sure Sajeela ko Haider ke tootey huwey dil ki haii lagi hogi…
I think I’ll just lie down now for a moment and recollect my thoughts before my face starts swelling up again. If any of you are watching, what did you think about the love-birds?
