Jo loag na kabhi aapki baat maante hein, na suntey hein, apni karte hein, sirf apney baarey mein sochtey hein, unhe yaad karna siwaye himaaqat ke aur kuch bhi nahin… What you do on a personal level resonates on a collective level and while Taufeeq Kamal was imparting these words of wisdom I couldn’t help but think how this captures the essence of who he really is. Taufeeq Kamal is a self- absorbed and proud man- granted, he is a success story but not without skeletons in his closet. He thrives on perfection but what exactly is perfection? Does perfection mean alienating oneself from those they deem less worthy? And what gives someone the right to decide the worth of another? Is worth a euphemism for your social status? How do you determine a person’s worth? Taufeeq didn’t think twice before abandoning his wife and his infant daughter. He never looked back to ensure his daughter grew up with the basic necessities, let alone luxuries he could easily have provided. Marriages fall apart but the bond between a parent and child is stronger- or is that only possible in a perfect world. Taufeeq was void of any emotions whatsoever on seeing Aiman- a daughter he hadn’t seen who recently lost the only parent she knew. For someone so conscious of being upright, he couldn’t manage to come up with a few words of consolation. He didn’t love Zainab but a loss of human life deserves to be acknowledged at the very least.
Aiman was afraid of being rejected and her fears weren’t unfounded. Taufeeq may have allowed her to live in his home, but he certainly hasn’t accepted her for who she is. Almas seems too good to be true- call me a cynic but I’m not completely convinced she won’t become a riwaiyiti sauteli maa. Agar rishton ko saleekhey ke saath lekar nahin chal sakhtey toh itni parhai likhai ka kya faida. Sahir is already showing signs of friction. Taufeeq is less than pleased with Aiman’s mannerisms and shared his disappointment with Almas. What did he expect- someone whom he rejected since woh unkey mayaar pe nahin utri thei would raise a daughter any different from herself? He is in a hurry to transform her into someone who can fit in to his lifestyle- not out of the overwhelming emotions of fatherly love but out of fear that she may be a source of embarrassment to him. Bajaye ghar mein farigh bhetney kay, kisi achey institute se English grammar aur conversation ka course karlo aur saath mein basic computers ka bhi…
Thankfully, there was lesser screen time given to Mazhar and Sajeela today- Mazhar’s conversation about divorcing his wife seemed bogus- it felt like he wanted Sajeela to hear it for her satisfaction. Mazhar has more to gain by staying married but Sajeela is determined to stay in the marriage- mohabbat ka toh pata nahin Mazhar, magar mein tumharey saath rishta zaroor nibhaana chahti houn. Sajeela severed all ties with her family for Mazhar and she has nowhere else to go. I don’t know how much longer she’ll manage to live with this nafrat aur bayzaari but she’s making her stand very clear with Mazhar- she will not tolerate his family moving to Turkey and taking up residence with them- Akhir pait kyun nahin bharta tumharey ghar walon ka? With Sajeela reminiscing about the man who loved her, she digs herself deeper in regret.
What did you think of today’s episode? I was a tad bit disappointed when Haider didn’t meet Aiman when he came over. Maybe next week?
