Episode 3 already and I have to say, the drama is beginning to grow on me. Why you ask? Well, for one, the direction has been spot on; the story seems to progress steadily without any hiccups. The scene with Aiman crying out- Mere saath hi kyun could have been over-dramatized but thankfully, the director spared us the sob story and moved along. Haider has managed to make Aiman feel slightly more comfortable by sharing a little about his past. Sadmay ke saath zindagi nahin jee jasakti. Aiman was curious to know how Haider knows Taufeeq. Haider filled Aiman in on the details of Almas and Sahir and his association with her biological father. He seems to hold Taufeeq in the highest regard and has oodles of respect for him- he also admitted to idealizing him! I wonder though, if spending time with Aiman and getting to know her hardships will shatter the image he has of Taufeeq.
Meanwhile, Almas gave the rundown to Sahil about Taufeeq’s past which is now a part of his present. I’m glad to see Almas as a sensible, reasonable woman minus the jealousy that has become synonymous with step-mothers. I liked how she spoke with Aiman- despite the awkward silence I think she took the first step and that was realistic. I finally get why Aiman comes across as a droid! Have you noticed how expressionless her daddy is? He barely moves his lips, let alone give away any facial twitches whatsoever. Ah, mystery solved! I liked how Haider handed Aiman the money making her feel like her father actually cares more about her than he does. I think Haider empathizes with Aiman since he understands part of what she’s going through. Aiman continues with some more self-loathing- Mein Taufeeq Kamaal ki beti kehlaney ki laiq hi nahin houn… Mein apni izzat-e-nafs, etemaad sab kho rahi houn yahan… It would be interesting to see Aiman evolve from her self-doubting state to a confident woman who understands her birth-rights!
We got to see a lot more of Sajeela and Mazhar’s track- I don’t know why Mazhar has trust issues and I’m honestly sick of this topic but at least we have some background about Sajeela and Mazhar and how she left everything to be with him. The mention of her sister marrying a man from a middle class background got me thinking- are Almas and Sajeela sisters? Maybe that’s the connection to the rest of the characters. Sajeela’s father (Shakeel) didn’t approve of Mazhar and identified him as a mauqaparast– a man after her wealth with insincere intent. However, he isn’t a typical upper class father- he is proud of his other mehenti damaad and speaks highly of him. How significant or otherwise their story is, only time will tell.
What did you think of today’s episode? Or should I ask- have you jumped on the MHMD bandwagon yet???
