Sajeela , Sajeela ,Sajeela , will you never change ? A hint dropped here , a clever retort aimed there and all Princess Sajeela has to do is sit back and allow everyone else’s secret fears , weaknesses and lack of communication do the work for her . Her complete confidence in her own self-worth is so strong that she manages to convince those who should know better that; yes, indeed she is deserving of everything she desires. Her sister Almas of all people should know better but she is the easiest to manipulate. I have to commend Hareem Farooq for underplaying this character and softening her up . I am getting increasingly tired of so called ‘vamps’ and their chalaaq , arch looks . A little subtlety goes a long way and actually mirrors reality much better.
Adnan Siddiqui’s Haider was the star of the show. His misery, confusion and repressed feelings brought much needed depth to the otherwise light touch this drama seems to have. His scenes with Shaheer and Bibi have to be the best. The spat between Haider and Aiman should have been the highpoint of the episode but it felt like a damp squib. Farhat Ishtiaq’s great talent is bringing these wonderful, emotion stories to us but translating that to the screen requires more than great production values and camera angles. While I cannot fault the director on style or form, he has not been able to bring out the urgency or strength of the character’s emotions with the consistency required for such a story. Somehow I don’t find myself rooting for people in this drama.
Haider is understandably trying to fight his attraction to Aiman; the age gap between them is something that should be considered no matter how many miles he runs a day. It never occurs to Aiman or her family that this might be the reason for Haider’s emotional withdrawal. From the next episode we can see events spiraling; as Haider seems to be using Sajeela to convince Aiman he does not care for her. Sigh, I remember wishing I could sit a few people down and force them to communicate when I was watching Humsafar but alas I can only shout at the TV screen so much before my relatives send for the psychiatristJ
Overall a well-made, interesting episode but just like the rest of this serial it seems lightweight compared to Rehaii and Humsafar. Perhaps I am just spoiled? Our fabulous Kanwal will be back next week .In the meanwhile let me know what you think.
