Mere Humdum Mere Dost- Episode 15 Review

Just as Rameen understands Aiman’s growing feelings for Haider, Sajid, Haider’s buddy tries to make him realize he should acknowledge his feelings- koi acha lagey toh maan lena chahiye ke woh acha hai. Haider cares for Aiman- but is his concern simply one that stems from hamdardi or is he developing emotions he can’t fully grasp? Another story that is developing in the background is Shaheer’s interest in Aiman. As Rameen points out- Shaheer tumharey kareeb rehney ke bahaney dhoondta hai. Aiman’s confidence is growing leaps and bounds thanks to the power of love. Granted, she has yet to find out if Haider reciprocates those feelings but for now, she’s on Cloud 9.

The news of Sahir’s arrival irritated Aiman- nawaabzaadey tashreef laarahein hein… showroom se nayi gari bhi ayi hai… Much of the episode focused on Haider’s attempt at playing peacemaker between the siblings. Sahir wasn’t as negative as he appeared earlier but it was Aiman who was having a hard time accepting him as her brother. Afterall, Sahir was born with a silver spoon in his mouth whereas Aiman saw nothing but abject poverty and struggled for the basics. Haider managed to mould Sahir and convince him that he should love Aiman like a sister. Haider, who is technically least impacted, seemed to be the only one who made any efforts at trying to ease the tension between the two. I’m surprized Almas didn’t bother with any formal introductions- I am struggling with Almas. I have no reason to dislike her character but she’s not grown on me either. I appreciate the fact that Farhat Ishtiaq has been realistic in expressing the awkwardness of the relationship- Mein Aiman se mohabbat nahin karti magar hamdardi zaroor hai. Almas has welcomed Aiman into their home- seeing how Taufeeq feels about Aiman, it would’ve been very easy for Almas to convince him otherwise. She’s shown as a secure woman- but I had hoped for a little more character development.

Sajeela announces her intentions to return to Pakistan even though Almas is dead against her decision. She arrives at their home and convinces Taufeeq to forgive her- apni choti behen samjh ke maaf karlein. Somehow, Sahir fears Taufeeq just as Aiman does although he appears to be warm towards Sajeela in particular. Now that Taufeeq has forgiven Sajeela and allowed her back into their lives, it is only a matter of time before Sajeela comes face-to-face with Haider and Aiman discovers their background story.

Today’s episode moved along at a steady pace and kept the tradition alive of mentioning food. I like the attention to detail- phone conversations, dinner-table conversations, different settings (home, university, social club, restaurants, etc), watching television, reading the newspaper. Everyday things have been interwoven in the storyline which makes it far more believable. Neither of the arrivals were overplayed and that again was a huge plus for me. I’m glad the story is finally moving forward and we have something to look forward to every week. What about you?
