Mere Humdum Mere Dost- Episode 11 Review

Take my hand, take my whole life too… Like it or not, this is exactly where we’re headed… Dosti zaroorat ke liye nahin ki jaati, bas hojati hai… Haider’s unflinching determination is laudable- he has taken it upon himself to empower Aiman because he sees potential in her. Aiman had built a wall around herself but Haider managed to penetrate through her defenses. His perseverance is the reason that he is now her sole confidant. But how big of a role hamdardi played in all this remains to be seen. Deny it all you want Haider, I can’t help calling it as I see it- a part of him felt sorry for Aiman and the rest of it can be attributed to his cheerful disposition. Personally, I find their relationship awkward- yes I know it’s just a drama and Adnan Siddiqui brings a truckload of charm to the role of Haider but, how often do you find yourself befriending your father’s best friend? It’s not the age factor here- it’s the ehteraam of the relationship itself. By default, any friend of your father would be referred to as an uncle- that’s just how our society rolls.

The phone calls from Moscow, the promise of daily contact, Haider dutifully informs Taufeeq of Aiman’s progress- her enrollment in the university, her subject of choice, her fondness for history, etc. I’m surprised her dictator of a father hasn’t forbidden this blooming friendship yet. Haider’s daily visits, enrolling her in an English Language Institute so she can learn to speak farr- farr English, kisi cheez ka na ana koi sharmindgi ki baat nahin… all this effort and no one has suggested her need for a makeover? I wonder where Aiman spends all the money her father keeps handing out? Surely it’s enough to buy a good quality shampoo and rid herself of the oil on her head. I don’t expect a transformation, but maybe baby steps towards looking a little more presentable especially now that Taufeeq has taken over the role he should have ages ago. Even more surprising since Taufeeq is shown to be extremely image-conscious.

Sajeela’s nervous breakdown softened Almas and she found herself unable to stay away from her choti si guriya. Sab khatam hogaya hai… Almas couldn’t help with the I-told-you-so routine (shaadi jaisey muqaddas rishtey ka mazaaq hi banakar rakh diya hai tumne) but expressed her disappointment with Sajeela’s decision of divorcing the nihaiyiti neech insaan. What choice does Sajeela have now except leave him? Does Almas expect Sajeela will stick it out for the sake of their khaandaani izzat? Aaj tak hamarey khaandaan mein kisi ki ek bhi talaaq nahin hui aur tum ab dosri talaaq le rahi ho???

Oh, before I forget, since when did pizza and dhai baray become a combination? Am I missing out on something here or is Bibi trying too hard to please? I’ll have samosays with dhai baray any day! What are your thoughts about today’s episode?
