Mera Yakeen – Episode 8 & 9

I thoroughly enjoyed these two episodes of Mera Yakeen, the acting was brilliant as usual, the development in the story was truly engrossing and the direction was absolutely flawless. Most of all these two episodes gave me a lot to ponder on.

Maha’s dependence on servants and nurses and the resultant hostility that is the outcome of frustration, her insecurity that her kids and husband will become estranged due to her condition and most of all Maha’s lack of faith in God, the way she does not even think for a second the way Nazish does, all of it truly helps one reflect upon our own actions, the way most of us think that we are in control of our lives when actually it is God who has the final say. Nazish’s yakeen in Allah and acceptance of the circumstances He is putting her in makes it so much easier for Nazish to deal with her problems. Nazish even after the traumatic divorce has moved on because she has faith that God has something better planned for her. Nazish just like Maha has absolutely no idea why she went through all the troubles in life but she has faith that God knows best, she believes in what she doesn’t know, what she cannot see and what she cannot control. But Maha only believes in what she can see and feel, she is paralyzed and we see her questioning why did this happen to her, not for a second did she accept it as God’s will or think that God may change the way things are if she has faith. She thinks she is no longer in control of her life therefore she makes the most horrendous decision (in my humble opinion), just so she would be in control. When Nazish asks her father how to develop the yakeen in Maha that things will be okay or how to convince her to move on , he tells Nazish that yakeen can only come when we accept “Jo us ne diya hai vo us ki dain hai aur jo us ne cheen lia hai us ki raza hai”. It sounds very simple but acquiring that kind of faith is not easy for most of us. For me personally Nazish’s faith in God or destiny and her positive nature is extremely inspiring. The way she forgets about her troubles and goes all out to help Maha come back to life is heroic for sure.

Maha’s children are scared of their mother because she is always shouting or crying and Asfand must go on with life, being busy at office and attending parties. Maha feels very left out and finally decides that she can trust Nazish. But the turn that the trust she has on Nazish took was extremely foolish on Maha’s part. Why couldn’t Maha hire another maid, since they are so readily available. After all she is not expecting Asfand and Nazish to be husband and wife but she only wants Nazish to marry Asfand so she can look after the house and her children and also because she is so certain that Asfand will never fall in love with someone like Nazish. Come to think of it Maha is trusting Nazish with this “responsibility’ solely because she looks down upon her and does not think she can ever match up to her. So, how does that secure Maha’s marriage? It absolutely does not. If Maha thinks that Asfand will get married one day then he might just do it even with Nazish in his life. This is what happens when you don’t rely on God to make things better for you but take destiny in your own hands. Maha is literally trying to hand craft her future…is that really possible? Most certainly not! Shifting her bed to the living room would have been a far wiser decision!

I found it rather odd the way Nazish shared Maha’s decision with her mother right away since she must know her mother will jump to the opportunity. And the way Nazish was contemplating how it was all going to be like…the whole Asfand ke dil mei jaga banana conversation was really strange. It would have been better if Nazish did not share Maha’s decision with her mother herself but Maha called her and tried to convince her. Asfand does not want to go along with the “plan” because he feels that Maha will not be able to take it and also because he feels that they are using Nazish. How can Maha not see that her husband already feels for the woman she is getting him married to. Maha obviously sees Nazish as a very submissive woman who would even after getting married to Asfand still follow Maha’s commands…like I said she would be like a housekeeper who is married to Maha’s husband.

We all saw in the first two episodes that Asfand has a very high opinion of Nazish and in a way looks upto her, Maha completely fails to see this and will surely regret her decision.

These two episodes were extremely engaging and I am really looking forward to what Mera Yakeen has to offer next. Maha will know very soon whether it was her yakeen or guman that made her do what she did…ignorance is not always bliss!
