While Maha lies on the hospital bed feeling hopeless and despondent, she cannot help but wonder if her life would not have taken such a hideous turn had she not told the beggar off by telling her “muje kisi sahare ki zarurat nahi hai’. Surely what Maha did was not so horrendous that she has to pay such a big price for it but it is only natural for her to feel the way she feels. I thought Maha’s reaction was very appropriate. Anyone in her place, whether they were outgoing or not would have felt this way. Maha woke up after her accident to a new life that she is not willing to face. The way she shut herself from the world said so much about how she felt, not knowing if her friends wanted to talk to her because they were concerned for her or they pitied her. The confidence Maha had in her relationships seems to be shattering, when she told Asfand “muje logo se khof anay laga hai”, I could totally understand her fear. She is too afraid to answer people’s questions and to tell them how her life has changed, too afraid that whether she will be accepted or not. The only person Maha wants to be with is her husband, the only person she looks forward to seeing. The reason is very obvious; she knows that Asfand loves her and does not doubt his love for a second. Asfand faces a hard time coming into terms with the shocking news but is committed to standing by Maha’s side, hoping that she will ultimately recover.
What happened to Maha , has shaken her to the core and she is already thinking of how life used to be and it might never be the same again. The two scenes from Maha’s past were very appropriate; the one where Asfand’s asking her to wake up and she would much rather sleep. In my opinion this particular scene suggested that she had the choice to get up from the bed, start her day, live her life but she would much rather sleep…will she ever have that choice again? Also it showed how her husband pampered her throughout her married life, will things continue to be like that? The other scene where Maha tells Asfand she wanted to go out because she feels suffocated in the room said a great deal too. When will she ever be able to get up and go out again? The dialogues, screenplay and Savera Nadeem’s acting was commendable and I could easily relate to her insecurities and fears.
On the other side, Nazish found out soon enough that her husband even with all his good intentions was helpless(obviously because he chose to be so). Faiz made it very clear to Nazish that she had to live her life according to Shehnaz’s wishes since she brought Faiz up like a mother so he owed her his life and happiness; how I hate this logic! Why do men like Faiz get married in the first place? Nazish’s mother is very worried for her and wonders if she is happy. A little late for all that don’t you think? She should have done her homework regarding the boy’s family before marrying her off. Her concern for Nazish after she got married scored no brownie points with me.
Overall, today’s episode clearly gave the viewers an insight into Maha’s reaction to her condition and I thought all of it was very well-done. It does not seem likely that Maha will ever be what she used to be, she has lost the will to go on and is not ready to accept the new changes in her life and rightly so too. I hope Maha is out of the hospital soon so that things move on and the play retains its pace. Definitely looking forward to the next episode.
