In my opinion, the last two episodes of Mera Naam yousaf hai were very smooth and steady in terms of plot development. I thoroughly enjoyed the flow of the story which is gradually unfolding without any unnecessary drama or high flown dialogues.
Zulekaha’s father fixes the date of his daughter’s marriage without consulting anyone in the house. Zulekha’s mother is seen quite perturbed with this one sided decision and is seen continuously inciting Zulekha to rebel against her father but in vain as Zulekha has somehow surrendered to her father’s will. She is however extremely agitated and is expecting some divine intervention to stop this unwanted marriage.
Ali Hamza has already given up trying to win over either Zulekha or her father. However, Zulekha’s mother has made up her mind to leave her husband the day Imran Mughess becomes the member of their family and she has conveyed that very clearly to her husband as well. On the other hand, Yousaf seeks Madhia’s assistance in conveying his message to Zulekha who goes to Zulekha’s house pretending to be her long lost school friend. Zulekha instantly gets infuriated upon hearing Youssef’s name and asks her to leave immediately. She also discloses the news of her marriage to her which is scheduled to take place in few days. Yousaf gets so dejected upon hearing that he decides to give up his passion, his life i.e music and that too when he is on the verge of getting a break through. However, his friend’s suggests that instead of leaving music, he should stop Zulekha’s marriage to which Yousaf gives an instant reaction and thus the episode ends there. The highlight of the last two episodes was definitely Afia’s begum brilliant crispy acting and Mansha Pasha’s amazing portrayal of Madiha who is a very sincere girl at heart and tries her level best to help Yousaf keeping aside her own feelings for him.
The last episode also brought into highlight Madiha’s relationship with her brother. They share a very close bond of trust and both are seen heartbroken when Madiha refuses to tell him the truth after she returns from Zulekha’s place. Noor Muhammmad is apparently hurt after Afia’s confession that she has never loved him. He wants to get back at her by going for a second marriage. We are also introduced to a much awaited character of Zulekha’s phupi who is responsible for the initiation of all this commotion in Noor Muhammad’s house and she turns out to be as evil and hostile as portrayed by Afia and Zulekha in their converstations.
As I mentioned in my last review, there is nothing new in the story, it is an age- old love story but definitely Mehreen Jabbar’s direction has made it very interesting. Every character is different and well placed. The constant battle of words between Noor Muhammad and Afia begum is a treat to watch. The underlying humour and sarcasm in all their conversations makes the play extremely entertaining. It has all the components of a successful play so far. Till now, it is a bitter sweet love story with a slight tinge of humour and sarcasm but I am sure that it will get intense in the coming episodes. Maya Ali as and Imran Abbas as have done justice to their characters so far but their best performance as Yousaf and Zulekha is yet to be seen .
