The 9th episode of Mera Naam Yousaf Hai was just ok. Honestly, I have failed to understand Zulekha’s explanation of love. Love is such a pure and a selfless emotion and who would know it better than KRQ himself .But the kind of superfluous expectations Zulekha has in this regard are completely illogical. Her love seems selfish and more like a transaction based upon give and take. She calls Madiha and informs about her Nikah which is to take place within the next two days. She tells her to ask Youssef to stop this Nikah if he actually loves her.
Honestly this did not make any sense to me. If she is so much concerned about her father’s respect, than why on earth is she thinking to go against his wishes? She should not be using Youssef as a scapegoat to save herself from a forced marriage.
Obviously, she would be falling in love with him soon, or actually in love with him already but the condition that she has put forth i.e to love him back only if he stops her Nikah from taking place is just absurd.
Love just happens, as it happened in the case of Youssef, it is never calculated nor you plan about falling in love beforehand.
However, despite her insistence Madiha chooses to stay silent this time and does not inform Youssef or even Daaji about Zulkha’s call. Her reaction is quite understandable as she fears for yousaf’s life and she knows deep down that if Zulekha’s marriage is stopped then she would lose Youssef forever. In her case, this selfishness is justified to some extent because this is real. Saints and selfless people hardly exist in the real world.
Daaji , however, finally finds out about Zulekha’s Nikah from her neighbour .He is seen quite perturbed with this news.
Yousaf who is totally unaware of these recent developments is completely shattered and conveys his pain through the song he composed. Honestly it is a very soulful track; I am completely in love with its lyrics. The best scene of this episode was when Daaji talks to Madiha about yousaf. It was extremely heart touching some real emotional moments and a strong acting.
Daaji might not be acentral character but Mera Naam Yousaf Hai is incomplete without him for sure. Imran abbas is doing great as Yousaf and Mansha Pasha is superb as usual. There was hardly any scene of Hina Bayat in this episode and I really missed her and her witty dialogues with underlying saracsm which is one of the greatest attractions of this play. She is too adorable as Zulekha’s mother. I really hope that there are more scenes of Hina Bayat in the future episodes and some more depth in Zulekha’s character.
