Unfortunately this episode failed to impress me just like the last one and Maseeha may just be a show that falls in the category of all sizzle and no steak. The show opened with an argument between Aabish and her mother resulting from Aalish’s behavior towards her ‘suitor’. The argument ended with the mother giving Aabish a deadline to make a decision regarding her marriage since she has to go abroad to live with her son. Aabish is shown as a girl who has everything in the world except people to love her around, maybe that is the reason her sun rises and sets on Shehryaar. I can find no other tangible reason for a girl like her going gaga over someone like him, especially now that she knows what his living conditions and circumstances are. I can’t help but wonder that how come someone as high and mighty as Aabish is in the same institution as Shehryaar, who comes from a rather humble background? A scholarship maybe…oh well whatever! Maybe they should have met under different circumstances.
On the other side Shehryar faces a predicament; his mother is in the hospital (food poisoning, say what?), he does not have enough money to get him by and he had to miss a final exam so he could stay in the hospital…. arrrrggghhh stop it already, his sisters I am quite certain are grown up enough to stay in the hospital, since it is a safe enough facility and he could have taken his exam, but then if that happened the viewer’s won’t feel sorry enough for poor sherry and Aabish would have no reason to go to his house…hmmmm. I have a question, why do Shehryar’s sisters act like nine year olds? In my opinion the state of affairs does not allow them to be spoiled. How can not knowing how to make roti be your biggest concern when you are that age and come from such a background? And if you really are spoiled enough not to know oh well then HELLLOOO, have all the tandoors in the neighborhood shut down? Usually in these kind of areas especially, neighbors know each other and help each other out but this family has absolutely no relative and no friend…are you kidding me? Shehryar bhai cooks, cleans, does laundry, is studying AND works as well…I feel dizzy just thinking about it. Shehyar bhai is oh so indispensable but somehow I don’t feel for him one bit. Most of his troubles except monetary ones are self-created. He should ask his sisters to do their fair share in the house, make some friends in the neighborhood and things will work out just fine. Right now I feel that it is almost as if the viewers are being forced to feel sorry for him.
Then there is the other character Mr.Basit, the guy obviously has some serious psychological issues. He is stuck on Aabish and ends up going to her house, she refuses to meet him and the aftermath was hilarious…the twitching of eyes and the whole facial expressions thing, going into a fit syndrome was quite funny, I was in fits at this point and thinking ‘all we need to make matters worse is a bad guy who has a screw loose’…talk about amplifying things. ZQ Made an appearance in today’s episode, yet another confused character, who is madly in love with Basit, although he is always giving her mixed signals. I am actually very disappointed with her character and the way it was introduced was quite ‘filmi’, the close up of the eyes and the lips.
I find it rather difficult to say anything good about this play except that the lighting and colors are good (does that count?). I am utterly disappointed with Ayesha Khan in particular, she is talented enough to work in any first-rate show and it is sad that she decided to take up this role. The viewers could do with getting a break from her and she would have ample time to find herself some quality work. Well, enough said, Maseeha definitely lost my vote today, no more eye twitching for me please!
