Another fabulous episode of Marasim and just when I thought this show had settled into a steady rhythm of great programming, the director Owais Khan takes it up a notch again. This week was even more impressive than the last with quote worthy; heart wrenching dialogues and acting that forces the viewer to root for people we forget are not real.
The slow train wreck that Is Daud and Momina’s relationship moves forward to its ultimately sad conclusion. Just like Parro in Devdas she could not bend; a victim of her own pride. I used to watch Sonya Hussain in other dramas but was never moved but here she is heart breaking. Her acting was flawless throughout.
One of the most powerful scenes had to be where Momina is sent to collect a cheque from Daud’s room. Ahsan Khan’s characterization is again perfect, his Daud is stiff with hurt but anyone can see that it would take one word, one glance from Momina and all the walls between them would crumble. . Momina and Daud’s fabulously delivered final taunts of Mubarak set the seal on their unhappy fates.Even Shere bano can see Momin’s pain and humiliation but she cannot even make some token or false offer of compromise. Of all the egos involved ,The arrogance displayed by Shehrbano is monumental .This character has caused nothing but misery to the ose around her since she could walk and yet her family rushes to protect her at every instance .
We did not see much of Gaythi Ara this episode instead the focus was on Nayab and her sister Almas. Zaid is dying and Nayab is helpless in the face of Imdad and her sister Almas. Urwa Hocain did full justice to her role and brought home the misery her character is suffering. Another powerful and memorable scene had to be the one between Almas and Nayab. Poverty and circumstance has made Nayab helpless but she is not broken, even at this moment she tells her sister that while she may forgive her, she never wants to see her again after the wedding.
Zanjabeel’s script is a star in itself and I can safely say that just as audiences search for Faiza Iftikhar, Umera Ahmed, Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, Samira Fazal and Bee Gul’s name they must look For Zanjabeel Asim Shah a sign of quality for any upcoming project. This story is not new and this whole project could have easily been another run of the mill, potboiler but the way the story’s focus shifts to and from each protagonist, gives the viewer a fresh perspective each time. Saba Hamid and Sadia Faisal , Naila Jaffry and Sonya Hussain , Urwa and Almas and of course Ahsan Khan ,have the kind of fantastic chemistry last seen in AunZara. So take a bow Team Marasim and thank you for keeping Sunday nights entertaining
